Are there any cold-weather stalker challenges? I live in northern Minnesota, and I was thinking of doing an extreme winter one this year. If there isn't one, I'm open to suggestions.

The full quote was more

>eating snow is like drinking saltwater on a boat

<he's saying it's a bad idea similar to drinking seawater if you're stranded on an ocean.

>>Eating snow is like salt water!

>No, its just cold.

Yeah fuck off. That's not what he said and you know it. If you're going to be pedantic at least get it right.

https://boreal.net/articles/cold-weather-research/do-not-eat-snow-another-survival-myth.php

>Yes, Snow is Colder that Tea or Hot Water and I would rather drink hot tea or water if I got trapped in the wilderness, but the Calories lost are not relevant compared to how fast you will become "Ineffective" or what we call in the military “combat Ineffective” from Dehydration. You will quickly lose endurance and soon you will be unable to do the work required to survive, long before you will run out of calories.

>Inuit eat snow all the time in their cold dry environment, they need water and the only form they have readily available is snow. In the wilderness, in a cold dry environment, our water requirements go up, not down compared to the heated air conditioned environments we often live in today. Water is a vital requirement of survival. Most of us require about 4L of water per day to survive in the northern forest. It is far more important to our bodies than food. Water is the critical nutrient.

>I figure the “Don't Eat Snow” Myth came from individuals actually eating snow blocks and being told don't eat snow you will get chapped lips, which can be debilitating in the wilderness over the long-term. Then they were told to ball up the snow in a small ball and suck on it. This way you cannot cool your core body temperature.

d07b1f  No.609063

>>609056

Eating snow is fine, it just sucks though. Even in small balls it takes a ton of warmth from your face for a tiny amount of water. Ice chips are a better choice.

Another idea is to stuff snow into your bottle and use the latent heat in the water to melt the snow. A half full bottle of water will have enough heat to melt enough snow to refill itself.

Has anyone found a water bladder that won't crack in freezing temps?

This, really. They make "runner/driver" gloves which are thin enough that you can stick your hands in your pockets to grab stuff, but even those are well-insulated.

I'll take your word for it though.

d89dd5  No.609237

>>609053

No, the main issue would be the fact that you hemmorage calories by eating straight snow. Think about it, it takes a few minutes over a fire to melt snow. Now think about the fact that your body has to do that on it's own when eating straight snow. That's a lot of energy you just wasted getting some fucking water. Use fire to melt snow for drinking, avoid death by hypothermia.

What's the intention of the "discharge all ammo" aspect? Is it to fire the rifle repeatedly and not be discovered? If so, who would be looking for you? Otherwise, if it's just to mag dump a bunch of rounds into some dirt then I don't perceive the point.

5fb147  No.618667

The idea is a bit of column a and b. To demonstrate that the POI changes and what that adjustment looks like, to note that conventional wisdom on rifle lubricants is wrong and what works instead, to demonstrate that the rifle actually works and how to keep it working. Plus shooting shit is fun.

Pretend to be a Jäger for the Austrian army. Or any army. Make up your own!

>bring pre-1914 gear

>pre-1914 weapons, preferably single-shot blackpowder weapons

>shoot at "enemy" targets

>have "missions" and objectives

>do it for a couple weeks to a month

>alone with nothing but God for company

>bonus: have a friend do it with you, but on an opposing army; attempt to avoid each other, and if you clash, make sure to ONLY ram the paper of the cartridge besides the powder, not the bullet (obviously)

>bonus: have a friend set up enemy targets and allies targets (with rations or supplies; even missions/objectives on paper that may or may not end in rewards), as well as snow forts, a few days prior; preferably, have the targets able to shoot at moving things somehow, without bullets of course

Tired, so sorry if the post came out poorly.

Say a restriction on WW2 pattern bolt actions only, or hunting rifles.

Snow is like a cold white powder, imagine it as wheat flour that melts into water note, this may not be entirely accurate depending on weather, but when it is very cold (sub -20c) that is what snow will be in most scenarios. Your mouth might get sore because you are putting ice into your mouth after all, but there isn't any big consequence.

Don't you have some snowy mountains in Southern Australia or something?

>>627214

Sports rifles don't really seem fair or realistic in general, those plinkers are probably too light to actually be an accurate representation of being a soldier on skis.

If you watch them they do some weird quick heavy breathing technique to steady themselves since they just cross country skiied(?) x distance and are breathing heavy. Plus they shoot .22lr, If they used full caliber rounds like the other strelok said they’d have to take a different stance.
