The problem is that by doing this we possibly are sending the wrong message. See above, it can be misunderstood.

To be short, I thought this was an ok idea to show that this is a good decision in general for the site, and because the idea of having something that rapresents us is not too bad. I maybe rushed too quickly and understimated the risks.

So, all considered, I think we aren't gonna do this. I am a bit sad that we don't, but I don't see a way to make it work. The upsides are not worth the downsides basically.

I feel you're not being objective here. I, for one, am okay with the current board speed and I like the users we have, but if we don't take chances, not even the ones with minimum risks as this one, the board will stay the same. Maybe in the future we'll get more users or someone will go on a posting spree, I don't know. What I do know is that the possibility of anyone truly wanting to discuss /jp/ topics or with /jp/sy potential will end up going to either /a/ or /2hu/ only to be disappointed, because those are the boards he first saw until time passes and he discovers that /jp/ exists here as well, that is if he doesn't get sick of 8chan as a whole first.

I honestly think were are missing an opportunity here, a small one sure, but still something that can be good for /jp/ as a community.

Again, I would've preferred an oc. Then, the message would've been more like we are a part of this place, and I know we are a large community even if we prefer to stay isolated from the mayority of board culture. And in the end, having a figure that is common for all /jp/sies here is a good idea to improve the sense of a community.

Listen, the problem is that the majority of us doesn't want a tan. And I too have more than one reason to believe that it's not a good idea to adopt one in like 2 days on a whim.

I started with the impression that it was something nice, but reasoning upon it made it clear that it's not the way to do it.

I am not here to take decision as I please. On /jp/, the Janny serves the board, not vice versa. I may propose stuff, but in the end is the userbase that counts. This is the thing that made us go from 4chan.
