CM wants to know what board-tan you guys want to represent /jp/so that an artist can put them in a mural. I don't use /jp/ myself, I just wanted to let you guys know this was happening so ye wouldn't be left out. If it's Yuuka then say so so that I can tell /2hu/.

When ye decide go to >>>/sudo/42783 and tell them.

Those are all assumptions. I also think that going against Suika is selfish, that won't help /jp/ at all. Other anons have already expressed that they feel Suika is the best choice.

>There is nothing distinctive about Suika

Precisely. You keep contradicting yourself. You say that you don't want to invite crossboarders, but still insist on using a very clear image on /jp, when it's exactly that what will end up attracting the crossboarders.

>>33887

No one is saying to stop being elitist.

>Suika as a banner to attract crossboarders

But it's not. We're not inviting anyone like Tenco said.

Actually there is, but a board-tan should be oc.

>improve post quality and encourage new users who will wish to adopt our culture and contribute meaningfully.

These are my objectives.

>>33887

>people want to abuse Suika as a banner to attract crossboarders.

My intent is not that at all, but I see why it could become like that. I din't keep in mind the reasons in >>33863 too. I still think it's a bit overreacting, but indeed it's a real treat. An oc would be not as bad for that aspect.

>4chan

Yes. I remember far too well.

>There are 2 things that always remain pure:

>/jp/s board culture and touhous

Amen to that.

>>33888

>No one is saying to stop being elitist.

The problem is that by doing this we possibly are sending the wrong message. See above, it can be misunderstood.

To be short, I thought this was an ok idea to show that this is a good decision in general for the site, and because the idea of having something that rapresents us is not too bad. I maybe rushed too quickly and understimated the risks.

So, all considered, I think we aren't gonna do this. I am a bit sad that we don't, but I don't see a way to make it work. The upsides are not worth the downsides basically.

I don't understand the whole mindset of "let's show all these other boards that we are active by using Suika!"

We don't have to proof anything to a bunch of subhumans.

This smells like a plot by some evil force. Tenko, I know you have high ambitions to shape /jp/ into what you perceive as a good board, but do not be tempted by devils.

I feel you're not being objective here. I, for one, am okay with the current board speed and I like the users we have, but if we don't take chances, not even the ones with minimum risks as this one, the board will stay the same. Maybe in the future we'll get more users or someone will go on a posting spree, I don't know. What I do know is that the possibility of anyone truly wanting to discuss /jp/ topics or with /jp/sy potential will end up going to either /a/ or /2hu/ only to be disappointed, because those are the boards he first saw until time passes and he discovers that /jp/ exists here as well, that is if he doesn't get sick of 8chan as a whole first.

I think doing this actually has low chances to be either good or bad for the board, but I do think that the upsides are stronger. Assuming we do go through with it, the best would be we get some new users and the worst would be someone comes over to shitpost. Well, the good user can be encouraged to lurk and eventually adapt, and the shitposter only needs to be removed. Elitism doesn't mean isolation, it means only welcoming what's best for us. And even if neither happens we stay the same as we are right now. We really lose nothing trying.

I honestly think were are missing an opportunity here, a small one sure, but still something that can be good for /jp/ as a community.

>I don't understand the whole mindset of "let's show all these other boards that we are active by using Suika!"

The thing is not that, for me at least.

Again, I would've preferred an oc. Then, the message would've been more like we are a part of this place, and I know we are a large community even if we prefer to stay isolated from the mayority of board culture. And in the end, having a figure that is common for all /jp/sies here is a good idea to improve the sense of a community.

Just this.

But an OC is something that shouldn't be public to every faggot, OCs come from the inside of the community and from /jp/'s culture. Say we used jannycat as some anons said. Then we have someone come over and say "hey am an jeypee oldfag I know the jannycat", would you really have a ground to remove him when it was you yourself who handed it over to him? Instead by using Suika, an already known and neutral character that fits the /jp/sy profile, there's no way for a newfag possibly worm his way in.

I am honestly really, really conflicted. On one side I have all the things you guys said about why this is not a good idea (things with I almost totally agree), and on another side I have >>33895 which is why I want to do it.

I honestly can't decide. If I go by pure numbers, the no option wins though. So it's still a no I guess.

We are better off not being known. What's so great about being acknowledged by a bunch of people who will just be a hassle to us? Finding /jp/ and posting on it without being called a faggot should be something that has to be earned rather than having an invitation handed out to you.

Anyone who truly knows and cares about /jp/ can find us, anyone else needs to fuck off

I think you should decide based on what the board is right now and what it can be. People change their minds faster than you think, and I don't discard the possibility that some of the existing gang who carries a grudge against /jp/ are here pretending to be /jp/sies so we don't participate. We should do this.

That is a wonderful idealistic thinking, I'd be really amazing if it worked like that, but sadly it doesn't. It's been nearly 3 years now and I love how the board is right now, but it could really be more, just a little more.

>>33903

I don't think I'll do it. Mainly because, with all the stuff we said, using an already existing character is not good. Even freacking /2hu/ made an oc, damn.

Still, I am concerned about finding new lost /jp/sies and drag them here. This will be discussed in the future, on the sticky. If someone wants to say something regarding that, it's welcome.

Because they want to be noticed and everyone to go to their board, we don't need that. Using an OC works like open gates, using an already existing character works like a quality filter instead.

Tans as a whole are a meme, and in this particular case its being forced. It doesn't even matter if you use OC or instead disgrace Suika, this whole idea is bad because we don't need to get noticed, especially not in such a negative way.

The problem is this: using Suika as a tan makes her a symbol, and people love to do bad stuff with these kinda things. Also some of us really respects her - see >>33868 - and I would be pissed too if that happened to a character I care that much too.

And before you ask: yes, I have a wife in Touhou too. And no, it's not Tenshi, although I like her.

>>33909

>this whole idea is bad because we don't need to get noticed, especially not in such a negative way.

I kinda disagree. We need not attention, more something like Hey we are here for lost /jp/sies to find us better. But yeah this is not that great for this.

>in this particular case its being forced.

Have to agree too. I wouldn't have done this if that thread woudn't came up.

This honestly is really what bugges me. I can't force a tan upon /jp/ just because I want to find more users. It's a terrible thing to do!

>>33911

I absolutely understand why some people are scared to use Suika, but you are seeing this from the wrong angle. You need to see this rationally. First, can you honestly remember someone, anyone, going out of their way to attack Suika? I sure haven't, I may have seen mean replies to shitty OPs, but never as the first hit and only inside /jp/. I have seen it with many other touhous, but never with Suika. This is because people in general identify with her, so I believe no one will attack Suika. I like Suika too, I would never argue that she's our best choice if I even had a doubt that someone might make fun of her.

Second, do you really think people are going to care about Suika when there are so many other OCs that will be targeted for taking themselves seriously?

In practice it will be what we've been saying since the begging. That /jp/ is not an 8chan board. It is a /jp/ board on 8chan.

You've completly missed the point about what's wrong with all this. It doesn't matter if people attack Suika or not, it doesn't matter if people 100% identify with her or not.

Heres whats important about this

1. Using Suika as a mascot is degrading in itself, regardless of potential attacks.

2. We have no good reason to participate in all this

Listen, the problem is that the majority of us doesn't want a tan. And I too have more than one reason to believe that it's not a good idea to adopt one in like 2 days on a whim.

I started with the impression that it was something nice, but reasoning upon it made it clear that it's not the way to do it.

I am not here to take decision as I please. On /jp/, the Janny serves the board, not vice versa. I may propose stuff, but in the end is the userbase that counts. This is the thing that made us go from 4chan.

Again, I won't stop trying to improve /jp/, and trying to bring us more people. But this is way too risky.

I'll wait the overboard. In the meantime, suggestions are open in the meta thread.

Then if you try and make a thread on their meta board regarding this they try to play it off as if they were just kidding around. In actuality 9/10 a ban on /a/ is a janny searching for a reason to ban you because they were losing an arguement, yet again, due to being Reddit streetshitters and trannies.
