Islamically should Muslims be carrying knives in London? Like I don't wanna disobey the law of the land and get arrested but I also don't wanna get stabbed, it's gotten to the point where people I know (and these aren't yobs that hang out with gangs or anything) are being threatened, robbed, shot at with fireworks, beat up and killed.

Not carrying a weapon is not a sin, therefore the law against carrying weapons is something Muslims must obey. We have to obey the laws of the land in which we live provided we are not commanded to sin.

Sayyiduna Abd Allah ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “It is necessary upon a Muslim to listen to and obey the ruler, as long as one is not ordered to carry out a sin. If he is commanded to commit a sin, then there is no adherence and obedience.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 2796 & Sunan Tirmidhi)

As far as for self-defense, a metal rod works just as well (if not better) than a knife. Hit someone on the head with it and they go down very easily, and you don’t have to worry about causing them permanent bodily harm as you would by stabbing someone. I don’t know how Britain’s weapons laws are, but if knifes are illegal and a metal rod isn’t, that is another added bonus.
You don’t want to risk killing someone with a knife (even if they are robbing you) if there is a more effective, non-lethal alternative. Maybe getting beaten unconscious will be a wake up call to them to get their life in order.

That's clearly talking about a Muslim leader. I don't think you should break laws in your countries, but let's not go overboard and say that breaking the law is now breaking God's law as you said. That is obviously absurd.

No, it is about any leader in general. Do not look for loopholes in God's law. We are commanded to follow the laws in the nations we live so long as we're not commanded to sin. If you can prove that "not carrying a knife" is a sin, then do so. Bring your proof.

One of the conditions of the leader is that he should be a Muslim in the first place. I'm not saying anyone should break laws, but rather that your claim that the british pm or whatever is the Imam that which Muslims are commanded to follow is clearly incorrect. See eg:
> O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the messenger and those of you who are in authority; [4:59]
Note: those of you(ie the believers).

A leader isn't necessarily Muslim. We live in many, many nations that have non-Muslim leaders. Are you claiming that I am allowed to break the law of the land in which I live, even though I'm not being commanded to sin, simply because my leader isn't Muslim?
Do you think God is stupid enough to believe that there will never be secular nations?

>A leader isn't necessarily Muslim.
I'm talking about the legitimate leader, mostly called in fiqh "Imaam". That's the leader mentioned in the Quran and hadiths that we need to obey.
>Are you claiming that I am allowed to break the law of the land in which I live
Well obviously that would have its legal consequences, so you're not "allowed" by the police to do that.
>Do you think God is stupid enough to believe that there will never be secular nations?
So let me get this straight, you're talking about a SECULAR nation's laws and how breaking those is to break the law of God. Does that not sound ironic to you?

The hadith doesn't even mention the word "leader" at all, that's something you've(or the translator) added. The hadith just says
>It is obligatory for one to listen to and obey
Now according to al-Bukhari it refers to Imam. Why don't you tell us what the conditions of being the Imam is?

Nope, here it is:
>السَّمْعُ وَالطَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ، مَا لَمْ يُؤْمَرْ بِالْمَعْصِيَةِ، فَإِذَا أُمِرَ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ فَلاَ سَمْعَ وَلاَ طَاعَةَ
>translation:"It is obligatory for one to listen to and obey (the ruler's orders)…
As you see "ruler" is put in parenthesis because it's not actually in the hadith. Al-Bukhari puts it under the title
>Listening to and obeying the Imam
https://sunnah.com/bukhari/56/167
So your "translation" is actually your own (invalid) interpretation.

It doesn’t matter if they are okay with it, if there isn’t a law against it they can’t charge you with anything. An example would be a tire iron, which serves a purpose and is a pretty common item. If British lawmakers want to institute a blanket ban on knives, that would include butterknives even if it would be silly to charge someone for possessing a butterknife. I don’t know how they could have a complete blanket ban on all metal objects.

“Well officer, I got a call from my brother down the road and he told me that he needed help changing his tire. That is why I am carrying this tire iron. He said he doesn’t have one in his vehicle.”
To make it so you are not lying, you can have a brother from down the road call you to help him change his tire, and have him take the tire iron out of his vehicle before doing it. Once you do that once, the above statement will always be true, and you can repeat it over and over without lying.
