Thought i start a thread about hoarding seeing as how a lot of hikkis keep stuff from their past and other kinds of junk laying around what do you keep and why do you keep it /hikki/??.

Sometimes I do end up assembling a bunch of crap that I "might need" one day, but deep down I know I never will. Outside of that, I don't really hoard anything. It just always made sense to me that, if I'm going to spend the majority of my life in my room, I should keep that room neat and orderly, and throw away as much garbage as I can every time I clean.

I never cared about doing this in my early hikki years but have in more recent years though i still have a habit of hoarding certain things such as things from my past like old school homework from 11 years ago and old clothes i wore as a teenager that i am too lazy to get rid of.

It is the opposite of hoarding in my house. My room and the rest of the house is quite sterile. My mom doesn't like holding on to things so most things get thrown out. I hate it.

I have nothing tangible left from my childhood. No school works or mementos. Nothing. I have clung to a class graduation photo that has survived a few moves. I wish I had kept more because I have so little in life. The early years of my life were better and that is the little positive light in my life.

I fear that this has created a hoarding mindset within me. If I ever move out or my mom passes and I am still around then I fear I will slip into ultra-hoarding mode.

I do this too. My room is mostly clean, but I held on to a number of things that I think I might need some day, such as old pay stubs from the short time that I held a job, and some work I did in college, as well as anything financial in nature. Other than that, I have some old clothes that I don't wear anymore, but can't throw out because my parents would pressure me about it.

Funny thing is, my parents are the hoarders of the house, if anything. They hold onto things that no one would ever need, but they insist on keeping it because of some vague sentimentality. It's my dad mostly, which is a habit he picked up from his mom who is the biggest hoarder I know. My grandmother keeps everything she collects, shoves it in wherever it will fit, and sits contently in her personal kingdom of useless sundries while rats and cockroaches run freely through her house, it's horrifying. Fortunately, my dad hordes much less than she does, and I hoard almost nothing, so it seems to wane more with each generation.

My dad is the biggest horder ever he keeps all his stuff in boxes in his basement hell he even still has stuff from the 80s that he never got rid of i think i got my hoarding habit from him.

My dad is similar, he keeps things passed down from his parents and grandparents, some of those things dating back as far as the 40s. Some of it is interesting or valuable and I understands why he keeps it. Most of it, however, is useless junk that no one needs and he forgets he even has, then when he finds it later he pretends he never forgot about it and that it's still worth keeping.

Anybody else have a serious problem with hoarding data?. I have a collection of DVDs and Blurays in my room but i don't watch them much anymore i've been downloading all of my stuff for about 6 years now and my collection is huge and i have 2 hard drives filled with a bunch of movies music anime video games and TV shows from around the world.

I used to have a big box full of junk, but I threw 95% of it out a while back, only keeping a few things that were actually precious to me.

>>5504

I had a lot of CDs, but I made ISOs of most of them and ditched them. Anyway, data hoarding seems comparatively harmless to me, since it doesn't take up much physical space. Plus, with the increased rate of takedowns these days, a private library can help keep culture from being erased.

I couldn't do this tbh because i have hard time letting go of things that are sentimental to me.

I can agree with that.

I delete movies / series after I watch them, so I don't have much problem with space. But I save almost anything else, from imageboard images to videos I care about.

I've been an aspiring minimalist (huehue) since I read some articles on zenhabits years ago. Problem is I have parents who literally collect napkins and ketchup packets like those. And they bought me tons of stuff for my aparment over the years. If I disposed of stuff that I don't care for or change the renovation too much they would get wounded about it. It's like my life is still their territory down to my living spaces. Point is I can't make myself let go of their precious strings-attached bullshit. Anyway my neighbour also collects drinking straws toilet paper etc, his kitchen cabinets are filled with plastic containers. Must be a boomer thing

My room's mostly clean. There's always clutter on the surfaces though.

I tend to organize my "horde" so it's easier to find things when I need it. It's a habit I got from my mom.
