I used to draw and paint and was getting pretty good but it all fell apart when everything else did. Recently I got into modeling, mostly Gundam but got some tanks and aircraft to try and work with. I'm not very good though I'm happy or at least content with the results most of the time. Did my first real weathering with this MG Zaku. The people on /toy/ would have things to say about it but I'm happy with it even though I went overboard on the helmet/camera pieces. Current project is an MG F91

I have this problem. Regardless of what I'm working on, even food when I'm in a cooking mood, when I finish or get bored I just want to throw it away or not look at it anymore. I get no satisfaction from completing something.

My advice, don't wait for "one day".
It never comes.
I thought like that, and I'm still waiting, 20 years later.
There is no right time or place to start doing something you want to do. You have to make it happen right now, surmount every obstacle and just do it.
1. buy a cheap paint set - it doesn't matter, it doesn't have to be the best, you can always replace it or just use it up and buy a better one once you've improved.
2. paint on paper to begin with, it's cheaper and fine for practice with acrylics or water colour.
3. paint anything. do the usual stuff first so you don't sit waiting for the perfect idea to come to you. Fruits, vegetables, flowers, people, landscapes, animals.
4. keep the best paintings, take photos of the other ones and discard them if you want. or just keep them all in a folder.
5. practise with different techniques, experiment with shadows one time, colours another, textures and so on. if you are lacking ideas, think of what you'd like to improve, then what you could paint to focus on that. shadows could be done with a forest scene, or a sunny desert. textures with a piece of clothing.
6. when you run out of paint, replace it with something a bit better. same goes for brushes, as you progress you'll become naturally curious or want something specific to further your skills with. don't buy it all in the beginning, you will be overfaced and won't enjoy it so much.
7. when you buy some canvases, you don't have to keep a painting if you don't want. you can paint over an old painting. just a coat of white or black and start painting again. that's what the old masters did.
8. post photos on here and /art/ or somewhere else when you feel you want some feedback or just want to show someone what you've done.

With anyone starting late in life who doesn't have time or confidence to dedicate to learning absolutely everything, I'd suggest trying out stuff like PeterDraws does on youtube.
It's kind of like OP's art, but even more abstract. If you really wanna draw cute anime girls or epic battle scenes, there are a lot of good vids & books on the tricky stuff, but I know as a Hikki that a lot of us just need an outlet for a hobby, Bad Feels, expression et cetera.
Abstract art is something you can use to really get out things you need to express, but have nobody to do it with. Seriously, check out PeterDraws. He's a chill dude without any snobbery, makes art out of just about anything, and very rarely does it ever LOOK like anything… But it's still art, and still legit.
You might even be able to make some money off of it, if you like.

I considered Etsy, but I have no way of making my own prints at the moment, as it stands, I have maybe 3 months of money left to live on if I can't find a job. I really couldn't say anymore. Used to help out a family member with their art and i know there's good print sites around but things change and that was years ago. Problem is getting them scanned in a high quality format and the printer not fucking up the colors, but you work mostly in black/white so that shouldn't be as much of a problem. Some advice would be getting a sample and working with any printer you choose to make sure it's what you want.

Interested, especially from a fellow hikki. I'm looking for something to go with my autismo religious/spiritual/schizophrenic beliefs. Pic related is a general idea of what i'm looking for. The only figure that needs to be a silhouette completely is the one with wings. Other ones can be however complex or simple as you're into. The whole thing can be super simplified or not, i just want it to look good. One thing i'm really interested in is having the page be a darker red with contrasting ink over that, so black/white ink on a red paper. I'll leave the actual size of the piece up to you and what you're comfortable with. As far as what i can pay, really prefer to spend around $50 but that's up to how much you want to put into it honestly. Would be willing to pay more. So if this is something you're interested in doing let's exchange emails or something.
