I agree, but I also think he got kind of stuck in the middle. Had he gone full quantity over quality and had more heroines and more sex scenes and all that it would have worked better for me. As it is, it's too little quantity to make up for the drop in quality.

I also think he got too caught on creating a backstory for the world. That's not a bad thing but you can clearly see the point that takes over the current events of the game. When building up background becomes what he was more interested in rather than doing something good with the characters and the mind control. The first part of the game is much better both with the flow/story and with the porn. That's why I say he got carried away, and the world he creates isn't really interesting or unique to justify that. Definitely a lot of wasted pontential because he couldn't decide what he wanted to focus on and stick with it all the way, probably because of the long developement time it had.

I'm glad this project seems to have a bit more focus, even though it will probably also have a bloated developement time (we're basically a year in and it's 2/5 done).

I think that's because game dev of erotic games here in the west is taken like a joke, whereas it's just another business exploiting another human need in the east. While nips do have their censorship, they are much more open about such things existing and people needing them. Therefore, they take development of erotic games seriously, just like any other thing, while western devs approach it like their side project and something to do on their free time (despite the fact that they may get serious money from it) and ultimately something that's not worth their full attention and serious approach. This attitude enables the mentality of "well, it's just fooling around and not a real job, right?" so people start having excuses for their laziness and with time the project ends up dead because it was not taken seriously.

I dislike Fenoxo, but he seems to be doing a decent job at managing his project. Her did it for years already, and his team hasn't really changed. Point wasn't about the jewing. It was the bloated development time taken on such a short VN with a single route all taking place in a single house. This isn't an rpg with maps to make and make sure you're not walking behind tiles and triggers function properly and battles and enemies to implement and balance.

You've got the music which is supposedly done. You've got the art which because it takes place in a single house greatly reduces the workload because backgrounds are a lot of the work there usually. And finally you've got the text which is limited to a single route and bad-ends along the way.

He gets away with being so damn slow because most of the other Western H-Devs abandon projects left and right and completely suck at keeping their supporters/customers informed on progress and delays.

On top of it, I think the sheer lack of consistent devs in the west, that put out decent quality stuff regularly, make people value this kind of communication with the fanbase more than actual resultsts.

Most western devs sink years into long, often open-ended projects, instead of making several smaller scope ones like in the Japanese market.

People praise or complain about whatever preview he's posting but not about the actual developement of the game, like people in this thread do.

I think I have only seen someone do that once, and he basically just got a lot of angry replies from Patrons who either missed or didn't bother with his point (though his comment was pretty angry sounding itself so he probably wanted to upset a few people anyway). Jewcat only said the voice acting, the thing he complained about, wasn't slowing down the release (which is probably true, all things considered. Yeah the sex writing is pretty terrible. Character interaction in general is alright, and the hypno-related is stuff is the only thing that can be called mostly good. A few issues here and there but nothing I would call a problem. Then again, you kinda have to be into mind control fetish already to pick up o appreciate these things.

for this game is easy, go to "game" folder and read the scripts that end on .rpy with notepad, there are 3 of them, they have everything (and you can change them to cheat too), easier than other games that messes with the scripts on "archive.rpa"

That's the problem with this whole comission thing really. Most games where the artist is not also a dev goes through this shit.

Tried talking with people who both make games and follow western porn games closely than I do and it seems most of the time the artists don't want to be a part of the team (and get their profit share like the rest), but instead work through comissions. And devs don't have the money in advance to comission the whole thing at once because most of these games survive through donations and crowdfunding (Japanese games can afford comissioning art all at once because the games are sold afterwards, and for a high price to boot).

I've seen people talk about how artists will charge extra for having more elements on screen, or even positions they deem unusual. Probably a relfex of how relatively small the pool of artists willing to draw porn for a game there are, they can charge whatever.

And honestly most of the times I've seen artist talk about the issue they came across as way too self-important and unwilling to reach even the slightest compromise in their art, which is why western projects break apart so often. Making a game is a fucking team effort, but a lot of western artists have delusions of grandeur probably because there's few enough of them they get surrounded by a bunch of fans who follow and defend everything they do.

And usually dev nor artist have enough foresight or maturity to discuss content at lenght BEFORE starting working together.

That doesn't excuse how barebones and lazy Jewcat's games are but it is most likely a factor on why they take so long. Aggravated by the fact he works with several artists, not just one.

He loses patrons on periods of inactivity too so even for his shekels' sake I think he would prefer having updates every 1 or 2 months instead if he could.

Every update on its own has been disappointing, in hindsight. I played this game when it had just an early build with only the prologue, then when day 1 was implemented, and then only when day 3 came out. Forgot about it in the meantime, but really liked it once I played again. Then I stuck around waiting for Day 4 and was very disappointed.

One thing worth noting is that if you do, alot of people learn moonspeak to read manga and shit, but the problem with that is that theres alot of them written for younger audiences as far as japan is concerned, so alot of the time learning japanese for that reason alot could make you sound like youre imitating a child to a real jap, so theres that.
