Yes. You'll always be looked at strangely. Especially if you can get Valve Proton working with the games you love.

Oh, yeah. Every time I use my laptop in public, it's a crapshoot that someone will try and confront me for "hacking". I have an older laptop, that I don't use a graphical interface on, just tmux and the like. Maybe I should switch to I3 or something like that.

All the time. Just yesterday I was on campus working on a compilers course assignment when the guy at the table next to me started staring and said I was using a hacker system which was illegal to put on the university network. After I explained about linux and FOSS he got really upset and left the common area and everyone else in the room started clapping

NPCs amirite

I have never taken out a linux computer in public without some NPC asking me what version of "windows" I'm using.

Some faggot even asked whether my linux command line was ms-dos.

No, but maybe that's because I was too repulsive when I was using a laptop. Or maybe I didn't notice it at all.

For the record, I used the cli literally every day, for doing everyday tasks like managing my music collection (which I removed by accident -- oops, sudo rm -R ~/Downloads/shit /var/lib/mpd/music), connecting to the university wifi, and so on. It didn't seem to bother anyone.

I mean, yeah I used to quite often before the new millennium. Back then, I used the command line more often than not on my laptop. These days, not really. My laptop can easily handle a modern desktop like Plasma 5 or whatnot. People don't really think it's anything but Windows with an exotic theme, or a Mac, with an exotic theme.

When I was in highschool I had my own laptop and was using ubuntu in the library and the librarian freaked out on me and accused me of modifying school computers because it had to of been a school laptop. That's the only instance where someone reacted to me not running windows most people don't give a shit because why would they?

I know if you said openbsd you may as well have said "ching chong" and it would have been the same to him, but I still kek'd at that.

Despite me using i3 and mostly CLIs hardly anyone ever notices. I have a TN panel so it's not too easy to look over my shoulders anyway. I had a guy ask me what distro I use at university though. It's unbelievable how many windows laptops there are in cs classes, and it's even more unbelievable how many apple laptops there are in cs classes. Hardly anyone uses linux on their private machines and many have only had contact with it when there were classes with linux assignments.
