I like the way the YouTube app works, with all my user intergrations, so having a version that I can watch videos without adverts, download them, have an amoled theme, and still maintain the personalized feel of YouTube is right for me. Might not be for everyone.

I've found an interesting program in the gentoo repos called gtk-youtube-viewer. I've fallen back to it. It's slower on the initial buffering if you have slow Internet but allows you to use any media viewer you want.

Hosting videos doesn't cost nearly as much as they make it out to be and the costs per video reduce with every new video
