Ok, I was told to come here instead of /tech/
I'm gonna buy a Sansa Clip and get a 128gb sd card then put rockbox on it. Anything I should know before buying? The SD card is a micro sd but it comes with an adapter. Will that adapter work on the Clip?

Yes, it's an awesome player. The card will work. The adapter doesn't go into the player. It is only there to transfer music form your computer's regular sized sd card slot

Rockbox is great but not really essential.

Oh, I see what the adapter does now. Though upon further inspection it seems that my computer does not have an sd card slot. Is there such thing as a USB to sd card adapter? I guess I should search before asking but whatever.

Well I like my freedums.

>for running
And I do that a ton myself. Is there something special about it that makes it better for running?

Very great, much better than lugging around my Moto G.
Anything else that could come in handy?

Are you sure it supports 128GB cards? I vaguely remember reading that the limit was 32GB because of standards or something. (Could've been about something else, or just a general warning.)

the device can't read exfat. you need to re-format your card as fat32. i use a 128gb card in mine and it works fine.

Get the Clip Zip. The screen on the clip is a little bit small making things a little hard to see sometimes and the device is tiny, so you can't use it without 2 hands.

I have that exact MP3 player. It's great. Tiny, has a clip, screen/lighting isn't shit like most MP3 players I've had. 10/10 would recommend.

I bought a Clip+ after having had a couple iPod Shuffles and a garbage RCA MP3 player break on me. Not wanting to buy another Apple product, I ended up getting a refurbished one off eBay for $20, shipping included. I don't regret it at all.

Versatile af and the one I had supported OGG out of the box which I thought was interesting.

They're good by design but not quality, be warned the solder job is absolute shit. I had to re-solder the joints for both the battery leads on the board. When one of the leads came off on the battery-side I just said fuck it and bought a few replacements because they're cheap anyway.

basically cold-joints, cold-joints everywhere. at least they didn't use lead-free solder like faggots.

I have been using one for 4 years now. Rockboxing it is the best thing you can do for the player. Musepack codec has the best efficiency if you want to maximize its battery life.

One issue: the headphone jack will wear out and become loose within a year or two.

it's nice, not so durable though. had one and dropped it, audio connector broke on impact which killed one of the audio channels and made it painful to listen to. in retrospect could probably have popped it open and resoldered though.

Been using Sansa for 10+ years now, and I'm just disappointed that they discontinued the Clip+. WTF? Wouldn't sales drive keep it alive? Tried the Clip Zip, it only accesses 2,000 songs at a time, no matter how much memory you have. RockBox is cool, but the Clip+ works fine for 32GB cards = 6,000 songs total. If you can find 6,000+ Good Songs, you're doing better than me!

Expect the piece of shit headphone jack hole to break. It did in mine. I've had devices that where the headphone jack never broke, but it did on this exact same Sansa +. Never buying another one.
