KDE is the best DE for normalfag (nobody on any chan )Windows baby ducks.

xmonad is the best WM. perfect multiple monitor support without even trying.
compiled binary is actually very small and efficient (despite the big haskell dependencies).
the contrib package adds a shitload of features to use.
the sky is the limit for xmonad.

it has two downsides.
haskell dependencies take up space on the harddrive.
so far no waylandmonad.

i3 is a tiling wm and it's pretty easy to use. The workspace management automatic, just like Gnome. The configuration syntax is pretty simple and self-explanatory. It runs i3bar automatically and it has the usual time and date, battery and notification icons (along with some extra stuff like load average and network activity). It's fully configurable and uses only 7MiB of RAM. Use nitrogen, xsetroot or similar program to change the background (i3 doesn't do that for you, but you can use .xinitrc or .xsessionrc). It's also possible to use it with XFCE, replacing the panel and window manager.

The downside is that it doesn't have the a11y features of KDE or Gnome. If you use those features, stick with an accessible DE and download more RAM. Some menu accelerators don't work in the default config, so if you use those then just change Mod1 to Mod4 in the config (or use other solutions mentioned in the FAQ).

Windowmaker friend.

You can make it look more modern, but a UI is made to get things done, not look pretty.

Tiling WMs aren't try hard at all either, but I can understand not wanting to learn how to move around with them.

Also, a lot of textmode programs are great and far easier to use than GUI based ones, so maybe not as a replacement, but I would make use of the TTYs

Open source software shouldn't depend on money in the first place. So what if the gnome project invested their money in the wrong way. Also outreach for women is necessary. Can't comment on the effectiveness though.
Considering most of GTK+/GNOME development is now dictated by Redhat anyway, the OFW shouldn't worry you.

Learning to use mod+shift and the arrow keys to move windows is really no more difficult than using a mouse. If you're worried that using keyboard keys to manipulate your computer is scary or difficult in some way, then don't be. It's really simple and cozy, and dmenu is excellent.

It will spell the end of projects. Some probably good projects. Tech isn't the sole reign of 1337 hax0rz introverts, but mass embracing of terrible people with terrible ideas will end with terrible results. They just think this is sustainable for the time being because tech projects make bank and are trendy.

Wait till buggy pieces of shit become the norm, and then good coders are forced out making way for even buggier pieces of shit that bring down companies, Enron style. Then the bubble pops and shitty normies move on to the next trendy hobby to crash into the ground.

No, mass participation is not a good thing when you can't call out anti-merit

i3. I mean seriously, stop being a masochist and just use a decent wm. There are so many, if you don't, it's entirely your fault, being the guy who thinks he's to elitist or whathever to use windows while not being able to configure an alternative OS in a way that it would make you happier than a blowjob. But in the Linux world, it's always you yourself who's to blame. Sure, you're using all ready made source code to compile your stuff but still - you're expected to be a thinking man. And hell, with w3m img preview you don't even need a wm. You'll probably have one, but when you just want to chill out, just use the terminal or it's just your own fault for buying into suspiscious mechanics rather than thinkinking and coding for yourself

You find the people doing this, both the SJWs and the ones backing the SJWs. You pull them out of their cars. You beat the everliving fucking shit out of them until they forget their own names.

Then it never happens again. World peace.

Then you find a group of programmers you know and trust in person. You do not let anyone into the circle without unanimity. You arm yourselves with guns and make it known that any fuckery will be met with extreme violence. Any mystery deaths will face blind retaliation.

That is how you protect technology. The world relies on good code. Trump is about to exterminate the Rothschilds and Soros faggots who do this shit. You have to rise at the same time.

> while still being easy to use and maintain if you compare it too gentoo

Using both concurrently on different devices, and gentoo is far and ahead easier to maintain than arch. Gentoo gives you a clean set of useful tools to manage packages and dependencies, meaningful feedback, explanations and tutorials, and has a complete, well maintained default package repository. Arch's tools are sub-par in comparison, and its default package repository is sparse and prone to annoying conflicts and broken packages.

The defining characteristics of arch:

> predominance of user/community maintained packages and wiki

> pressure to have latest releases/packages

> compliance with developer demanded feature creep(systemd, pulse, etc.)

All are interdependent and should give you a good picture of the arch userbase. It has its upsides and downsides, but arch would definitely not be my first choice for either my main desktop system or a stable production server.
