What sort of laptop should I get?

I don't know much about tech

I don't play games

I'm looking for something that's fast + powerful, high quality, future-proofed (within reason of course) and that's easy to use and software that isn't annoying all the time and gives me freedom.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Money's not an object

Thanks x

thinkpad t400 is preety great, get mint xfce edition on it and you'll be set. Get an ssd and some ram with the saved funds and its pretty much as future proofed as you get. (Even newer hardware is never "future proof" per say)

Apple sure is powerful...if you put their laptops on a freezer.

T400 or X200

Libreboot (true full disk encryption, less Intel inside)

8G ram

New OEM 9 cell battery (8 hours of shit posting, easy), removable so can carry spares.

SSD probably. Alternatively load OS to ram from a flash drive and a second USB partition for storage is a nifty solution and uses less power.

Parts are everywhere and these go on eBay for <$200usd.

This is actually a good choice. Mac OS has started porting some iOS security features that Linux distros lack entirely.

This. Their hardware is not objectively powerful, but if you're not going to do games or heavy video editing, it's designed to feel snappy. The latest MacBook Pro is a good choice.

Thinkpad X61, X201, X220 for compact, and Thinkpad T60, T420, W520, or W701 for large.

Just don't even bother with the new trash which is out these days, the CPU's are barely faster and if you don't game the faster GPU is pointless anyway.
