The same could occur in Hollywood, but I noticed that they have a trend of preserving the theme of traditionalism by tying it to other ethnic groups. They did it with Moana and they'll soon do this with Black Panther. I wouldn't be too surprised if they rebooted Robin Hood in Spain or Mexico because they're strongly Catholic.

- Marian fighting more badass than Robin, either Martial Arts or also a bow, despite being royal and sitting around in a castle all day.

- Sir Hiss falls a lot and cracks stupid jokes. He'll have a running gag that pays off poorly at the end.

Filmmakers create work that they hope will appeal the majority of people. But it can't please everyone. It's an easier sell if they can piggyback off the fame of already well-known source material if it's public domain. But the source material is still there for those who prefer it over the adaptation, so we shouldn't get too angry over it. I get your criticism of out-of-place comic relief. It can be unwelcome if you're not in the mood for comedy or just don't find it funny. But being family films, it gives little kids watching something to laugh at.
