/fur/ is currently undergoing a relaunch!

This is something of a soft relaunch, including a variety of changes in policy and organization. I decided it would be best to do this as a process rather than to work in private and present it all at once, so this thread will be used to cover and announce the current developments and progress along the way as the board transitions. Discussion will be handled separately.

You may have already noticed changes to the board's theme! If you haven't please go to the options and select "Board Specific CSS" from the themes. This is one part of the aesthetic and quality of life improvements to the board. I'm also working on some new board assets, but those will take some time.

The CSS source will be released after more testing.

I've put together a quality of life script that I highly recommend using.

Installing it is as simple as copy/pasting the contents into the User JS section of the options. You can open the options at the top right of your page.

With this version there are a couple features. The settings to spoiler and anchor/sage your post will be made visible without extending the post options. There is also an adapted script (credits in the paste) which allows you to unhide spoilers if you so desire (you'll still be able to tell which images have been spoilered).

You can edit the boards it will take effect new the top of the script by changing the board list.

A reasonable amount of spring cleaning of the catalog will be done over the week. There's a lot of threads anchored for various reasons and many ancient threads, some with old baggage, that should be cleaned up for fresh conversation (Not all threads will be removed for their age. The 3D art thread, for example, is going just fine. Some are good slow threads or "archives" to have around).

Archives for many threads will be made on archive.today. Reminder that you can browse archives on the site by entering "8kun.top/fur" or "8ch.net/fur"(older archives) in the Query search.

You can now reveal spoilers on a thread by thread basis. This effect persists for the duration of your browser session.

Spoilers are removed at once, but to restore them you must refresh. Still, this should add plenty of convenience.

I mentioned policy changes. Let's go over 2 of these.

This is a simple posting courtesy made easier to manage by the uwupgrade script >>116520

How to treat nudity depends on the context of an image, but I would suggest extra caution for the leading image in a thread for the sake of the catalog. It isn't possible for users to spoiler specific files, so if you have a multi-file post you really don't want to split you can send a report asking for the specified files to be spoilered.

>Don't treat /fur/ like a booru and/or fetish board.

Sharing content is nice, but it isn't appropriate to treat threads as if they are tags on a booru, nor to dedicate them to specific preferences or fetish topics. There is leeway and exception to be had for specific circumstances or spontaneity, but there's an excess and trend of thought that needs to be addressed by a stronger rule. There shouldn't be an expectation for making porn threads opposed to threads more broadly.

A NSFW thread will be created/encouraged alongside the SFW thread. Animal specific threads with their tag-like structure will have their OPs edited or perhaps remade. Perhaps something similar for series threads also treated this way. Existing sex/gender/orientation based threads will persist for now, but will be encouraged to become more broad going forward (A gay thread, for example, is better off discussing and sharing gay furry content and characters than being a tag for a gay porn dump). Some pure fetish tag threads will just be deleted.

I'd also like to put out a short announcement that something like the theme threads of the past will be making a return in a more engaging form. Thought is still being put into this, but figuring out ways to organize community activity is perhaps the primary goal to achieve in this relaunch! So stay tuned.
