The people who buy these things are rarely autists. Autist conjures up a certain image, a chris-chan lite. That's not who we're dealing with here. Maybe in the ~$500 range on occasion, but above what disability welfare will cover it's unlikely. Furries who pay this much money are almost always either trust fund kids or STEM types. That's where they get the money. Why would an autist pay $5k for this trash when to their autistic mind, an MS paint art trade is just as good? The social-signalling performed by the high price is completely alien to the autist, who can barely comprehend a lie.
The behaviours of those two groups are often similarly in violation of conventional social norms, but these people have the power and the community to back it up, with their own cliqueish in-group and rules. They are a country unto themselves.

Framing it as decency is dubious tbh.
The minute you start to sell commissions (you implementing someone else's vision) rather than merch (your vision, now on a t-shirt!) you've accepted the worst kind of selling out your social capital to other people. A life of $5000 neon dicks with your signature in the corner awaits.
The fandom as a whole is indecent. Every social force at play here is the antithesis of good manners, community spirit and kindness. Pay up and smoke up or give up.
