Simple question, keep seeing it pop up here but don't know why. I want to know because I think I'm finally ready to hit a local gym (that just so happens to be crossfit) instead of doing really basic stuff like pushups at home

Crossfitters are the vegans of lifters. They are hipsters who want to do exercises that are fancy and retarded instead of effective. They make no gains and the only way to find out that they "lift" is by them telling you about it or posting it on Instagram

Xfit is working out for the sake of working out. The back bone of all strength and muscle development is progressive overload. Which is not taken into account at all by xfit. Each day is a different workout usually a combination of aerobic and anabolic with no consideration to previous workout. There is no progression, no muscle and cns adaptation.

serious talk now, crossfit is indeed kind of a meme right now, but its definition I'm pretty sure is just focusing on supersets and keeping a high rate of exercise, which has been around fitness forever
>>128380
like pretty sure most of these are just a mix of dumb exercises, dumb calisthenics, and dumb lifters

these are power circuits and have been around forever. the point of xfit tho is do perform everything in a memetic fashion. the vast amount of weird xfit equipment is also quite the meme folder that got dumped on all these gullible people taking part in it.

Crossfit is shit but 90% of this is poorly performed power cleans, calisthenics, equipment failure, and retards in general. The burpees with the medicine ball got me laughing though.

My coworkers husband does crossfit.
They follow the weird crossfit daily sets by the crossfit commitee but anyways I tried it once and the cardio is hard the weight wasnt too bad
I got to do goofy shit like overhead squats which are p hard
Anyways back to my coworkers husband his bench press is 435 pounds and he only does crossfit and he is natty. He used to be a chubby powerlifter now hes a built fucking bench pressing machine.
I think it really depends where you go for your crossfit a lot of shit start up places but the one he coaches and trains at is pretty premium and I would say 80 percent of /fit/ would get beat in powerlifting there vs their core crossfit group

Because it's dangerous. It's an attempt to blend sport and powerlifting into one, but with more movements comes more potential for completely unnecessary injury.

And WTF was up with those wall-ball shots with a pushup in the middle? There's no fucking way a human can do that without expecting to get a medicine ball to the skull.

I disagree. I say you're better off doing body weight exercises and not risking breaking a knee, ankle, elbow, etc., a serious concern with doing crossfit.

>no consideration to previous workout
So where a normal person working out might do biceps and chest on Monday, Legs on Tuesday, Triceps and shoulders on Wednesday, etc a Crossfit "box" would instead do biceps and chest on Monday, Chest and Tricep on Tuesday, Bicep and Chest on Wednesday, etc?
Or is it something more retarded?

From what I've seen, crossfit makes you extremely toned, but it's terrible for actually working out. If you want to lose a lot of weight for some reason, it works. But even then, there are far less dangerous and equally effective methods.

Since this thread is back up, summed up crossfit shit reasons are:
<you go for best time and throw form and proper rest out the window
<everyone works out with the same weight you just go for best time, so the new guy and the vet are both squatting 1 pl8 50 times
<at least here its fucking expensive like 150+ a month for "unlimited sessions"
<you cant really use the gym as a standard lifting gym on your downtime
<the whole crossfit culture and dumb posers who partake
>if your a lanklet you will be better off than anyone else
>once you know the routines you can pretty much do it at home with some equipment
<highest injury rate out of any weightlifting activity
<assault bike

Went with an uncle to a crossfit gym a couple of times. We did the whole aerobics + weightlifting stuff, it was different every time we went. That was honestly very hard cardio training, I was a sweating mess, this shit was hard man. The weightlifting aspect seemed suboptimal though. It was some sort of full body training where you did every exercise like it was cardio. It seemed suboptimal to me because they made me do one set of like 30 reps instead of breaking it into sets, and it seemed like the focus was more on getting 30 reps instead of using a weight that was hard for you or the quality of reps.
I noticed that there were a couple of strong jacked guys that were doing there own thing in a corner. They were doing heavy deadlifts (about 3 plate?) for low rep sets.
Does crossfit have different styles of training? It looked like the class had to do meme training while to jacked boys were following doing sort of real powerlifting.

I don't know, I'm no expert, but I any time I see a cuckfit they always look pretty jacked. Even the women I've seen look pretty muscular and thick.
I thought of trying, but it looks like if you fuxk up your form you'll fucking injure yourself

Not entirely certain but here are a few reasons I've heard.
They don't use metal plates. Yes this is a valid critique.
They combine aerobic movement with heavy weight but the two don't mix together.
They stole exercises and made them easier like jumping and pull ups.
Their base is made up of hipsters. Everyone is either fat or skinny. Pretty much every meme you've ever heard about Planet Fitness applies to Cross fit.
