i'm pretty sure the whole obsession with being rememembered and whatnot is closely interlinked with the concept of 'immortality' at least in the sense of society. almost all the people can say that they exist with a certainty only when there is someone else to confirm their existence. in this sense, immortality has been achieved with first legends and myths. be it Plato, Jesus Christ or Hitler, they all are immortal at least so far as humankind exists. death is scary. doesn't matter whether it's muh industrial society's fault or someone's else's, it still for most people is. that's why they try to cling to anything, which could make them immortal, even in this somewhat obscene way.
now o address OP, i would prefer to be dead in the eyes of other people, simply not exist to them but still live until my heart stops beating. i can't really tell whether it's my disappointment with People or something else, but i simply dislike the idea of being known of or even being remembered after my body stops working. nevertheless i still find it interesting interacting with other human beings mostly anons since i am still but a human that craves attention and wants to be heard. i suppose one cannot escape this, especially nowadays.
