Will drones let drivers see road conditions ahead ?

Can drones help carriers from being extorted from the police state ?

>Will drones let drivers see road conditions ahead ?

That's what mobile and GPS traffic updates are for.

>Can drones help carriers from being extorted from the police state ?

Explain.

GPS traffic update is great but there is a delay. When approaching traffic that is backed up it is usually half of a hour. Now do you take the exit were traffic is not backed up and take a forty five minute detour. With a drone you can see if it is a major wreck or a fender bender.

Carriers/professional drivers have licenses, bonds for cargo, insurance for vehicle. Police target these drivers. Tickets generate money. Doing nothing illegal these drivers are targets. We are talking about people who transport illegal cargos we talking about the legal drivers making a honest living. To many points and a carrier will lose their license to many tickets with no points the insurance company will drop that driver. Unable to get cargo/package insurance.

Avoiding a situation is better then being extorted by it.

I think a car drone for scouting would be great. Land Rover has implemented that concept with the Red Cross two years ago. Although it would be absurd to think that they would let you pilot an aircraft while on

the road.

Part 107 pilot here, no you almost certainly cannot fly a drone while driving, k e k. However, it can be autonomous or piloted by another passenger.

Also, drones over roadways is considered bad form.

As for the utility of a car equipped with a drone, as seen in Bladerunner 2049 - security vehicles with large patrol zones, off-road vehicles that need to see ahead where typical traffic updates do not work. And of course video producers or inspectors essentially turning a car into a rolling drone control OP has it's uses for mobile site work.

There are a few uses for it; car makers will probably avoid making this an already included feature because liability… so your only hopes of prototyping it are aftermarket.

Drones are noisy, have limited battery life, limited range, aren't very powerful, normally aren't very fast, and easy to be knocked off course. If you're traveling at 60mph you'll almost never have a drone that can go more than a couple of minutes away from the car, and you also have to get the thing to land accurately. If you're stuck in traffic you could send it out to see how long the jam is and what the cause is, but you're already in the jam so the drone is doing nothing but sating your curiosity. You can do this with today's tech already if you want, go spend a couple hundred bucks on an FPV racer.

In the future it's more likely the cars themselves will be connected via either mesh network to each other or reporting to a centralised botnet you didn't even know you were contributing to.

>Will drones let drivers see road conditions ahead ?

It's possible but why would you want to see it? It'd be way more useful to just have a computer program process the road data and spit it out to you in the form of "In 2.7 miles, there will be a 5 minute delay."

A better idea would be to have sensors installed on the sides of roads and the data can be uploaded and accessible publicly like GPS data.

If the drone can autonomously deploy and land it would work work just as effectively as if there where sensors or cameras uploading traffic information to a public API.

I think the focus of car manufacturers should be to stop drinkers from driving or pull over cars with sleepy drivers.

The drone systems should also be heavily regulated on public roads.
