>the entirety of humanity's knowledge accessible anywhere from the palm of your hand

>VR back on the radar

>Intel smart glasses HUD

>virtual assistants soon to be coupled with the ability to robocall and sound indistinguishable from a human

>self driving vehicles

>A fucking Space Force, new calls for a manned Moon landing, and Mars around the corner

>realtime tracking of Chinese citizens, complete with facial recognition and a government ranking system

Sure we haven't figured out a way to counter mass to allow for flying cars, but I'd say it's a pretty healthy landscape overall.

We also have:

>sex robots

>robot pets

>robot care takers

>megacorps with more brouzouf than countries

>cybercrime and cyber police

>nanotech - nano sensors, nano needles, etc

>surveillance states

>augmentations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_enhancement#Existing_technologies

>tech wear we have, that will be getting even better soon with graphine material improvements

>multimaterial 3d printers

>nootropics

Will soon have:

>space marines

>neurotech

>3d bioprinting

I could go one for several posts. If anything, we're rushing past futuristic cyberpunk, through postcyberpunk to straight up magical like tech.

but yet the average person has no sense of identity, history or nation, and no overall higher goals that society is working towards. just materialism, laziness, slavery, degeneracy and a total disconnection from the natural order. what good are the toys if they serve no higher purpose?

its all going wrong

Depends on who you're talking to. This is the plan for some.

The majority of humanity are cattle who are programmed by msm and "entertainment" but there are a lot of people with a sense of identity and history, who've unplugged. Maybe you can't see it for some reason.

All of that sounds pretty cyber to me. Not much cyberpunk shit that deals with nations fighting one another or people connecting to their ethnic identities and shit.

Obligatory reminder that cyberpunk was supposed to be dystopic.

And negative impacts of globalization, consumerism and technological progress are all big parts of it.

>and the rest are programmed by other sources…

I was going to include that, but replying to someone who seems completely (((black)))pilled, I didn't want to be the one to help push him completely over the edge. Yeah, we're all biased, and we all learn from our surroundings and what we consume, but if you're completely lost, no faith in anything or anyone then you're going to kill yourself and/or others. That's what some programmers want. If you still have faith in other people, then at least you're lost and maybe the shit you're consuming isn't complete garbage designed to make you want to kill yourself or others.

Of course the future doesn't seem futuristic, you're living in it. If some dude from the 70s were to suddenly log in in this time, practically everything we have would blow his mind.

I think everyone here just doesn't actually get that things don't get built overnight, and just because you think an idea should exist because it is cool doesn't mean that it is feasible within budget constraints or profitability-analysis.

We are still barely in the opening stages of technology as a whole anyway and we are all young enough that if we don't pollute our bodies with a bunch of garbage we will live to see 50-100 years from now what happened.

I think part of the problem is that people are people: you give them a fucking portable supercomputer and they use them to make NPC-grade comments online and post shitty shopped pics

Sad but true. Cyberpunk was always a globalism-runs-rampant scenario. That's where we're headed, and it looks pretty much the same - just not nearly as cool.

Keep in mind that no one in /cyber/ lit/film/vidya actually thought that their reality was 'cool'. The only ones that did were either rich or had some kind of distraction that helped them ignore how bad their lives were, like vr or drugs.

That's a shame. Something will replace it though. There's simply too much utility to ignore the concept of a HUD, even with the rightful worrying of Big Brother looking through your eyes.

I mean… we aren't really getting cybernetic body replacements because we skipped pasted it to straight up growing shit with stem cells. Weird how we didn't predict that.

No miles and miles of fiber, instead we've skipped past that to straight wireless everything.

The IoT and wireless everything is a boom for war drivers like me. Scene nearly dropped off till everyone started hooking up all kinds of shit to wireless networks. Now it's a field day of remotes, video streaming dongles, camera's and all manner of computers.

It's not like we expected it but I enjoy the surprise! The future is now with all it's wonder and sometimes frightening possibilities.

The chess board is 3d now instead of 2d. You won't see a 1984 scenario exactly, more like a hybrid of normal, brave new world and 1984, only this case governments and corporations have a tenuous grasp of things.
