Seoul has modernized more than Japan has due to Japan still not recovering from their bubble popping (Korea ain't that far off though). However I know that Japan does have a lot of corporate power abuse going on, but I'm not sure if Korean corporations work the same way. It's not as abusive like it was in the 70s 80s, but it lingers. In a way they both are equally cyber where one is that ideal future of booming economics and culture that people dream of, the other being a slowly rising city with a cold corporate past that pops up once in awhile.

They absolutely do.

China's been better than Korea for teaching since like 2011. Better pay, better workplaces, better food. Nightlife kind of sucks but you can't win them all.

Relevant to my interests

I was in Korea in 2007-2008, $2400 pcm (but $600 rent). Not what I'd call /cyber/ particularly though, Samsung is a big corp and basically calls the shots for the govt which is creepy but it's dismal and stuck in the (constructed) past, frankly Hanoi had more neon, more chaos, more high tech/low life. Future cyber hotspot?

Only in Japan briefly (4 month contract) but Tokyo's pretty impressive. Still, has a lived-in, almost Russian municipal bureaucratic side which is not the laissez-faire /cyber/ I think about. I'd love to go to Osaka though.

Does anyone know about Cyberjaya in Malaysia?

Someone talk to me about the cyber cred of Taipei and China before I say fuck it and end up in Saudi :D

Korea is essentially 80s Japan, but they don't seem to have the creative spark that the latter used to have, while their society in general they have gleefully adopted hyper-capitalism as their "moral" guideline.

>>36728

The laissez-faire /cyber/ you are thinking about won't exist until governments crash and burn.

Maybe you'll be lucky in a few years when either they do, or tech advances enough to do it for them/make them pointless.

China.

http://www.ibtimes.com/pulse/rise-chinas-megalopolis-jing-jin-ji-evolution-megacities-2016373

>There's Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing and Tianjin, and China has announced plans to create a new megalopolis that will connect three of the largest metropolitan cities in a region that's roughly the size of Kansas. Say hello to Jing-Jin-Ji.

>There are two parks that don't have enough space for the number of people who want to enjoy a weekend outdoors. There are not enough schools, drainage systems or even a movie theater. There are not enough buses to handle the number of commuters and even if you get on one, there's that three-hour ride to contend with.

Meh.

Taiwan is bigger than Taipei. However, Taipei might be the most exciting city in Taiwan.

Taiwan has a mostly benevolent police state. However, the citizens are all so brainwashed that they don't need to be coerced into obedience, so the actual cops are nonviolent nice guys.

This means that Taiwan lacks "punk." There is no drug scene to speak of. Ten years ago, that may have been different. You can't import a lot of things that are legal in the USA, so the laws are pretty restrictive in that regard.

Taiwan … meh. If you have an Asian fetish and you desperately want a yellow-skinned sex partner, then come to Taiwan, and you'll probably get married and stop browsing /cyber/.

There are no adventures to be had in Taiwan. There are no biker gangs. There are no drug-soaked night clubs.

I suppose I should mention ketamine. This is an animal tranquilizer. The locals are so unaware of high-quality drugs that they are willing to sniff ketamine. It's a desperation high, and it's the kind of thing that prostitutes do to numb themselves to the emptiness of their lives.

There are organized crime groups, but they are totally owned by the power elite; they are not rebellious and edgy; they are basically white-collar criminals.

The thing to realize is that Taiwanese people are really good at chemistry and at business, so it's relatively safe for Taiwanese factory owners to manufacture precursor chemicals and ship them to other countries.

However, Taiwan's government loves the USA government and the War on Drugs.

So Taiwan's government has many more drug police than it actually needs.

Whenever they discover an actual illegal operation, they send 600 armed cops and 40 attack dogs.

One more friendly hint about BOTH Taiwan and China.

There are a lot of girls with oral herpes.

I mean a LOT of girls with oral herpes.

They do NOT understand basic sex ed, no matter how many times they have been taught, because they are psychotic.

Taiwan's STD rates are ridiculously high, but the rate of sex is ridiculously low, because so many desperate men hook up with sluts, just once, for their solitary sexual experience in life.
