I want to keep this short as to not scare anyone anyway before a reply.
I have been on this board for some time now and have participated in various steam, Skype and the like threads in an attempt to make a friend or two.
But I have never had one single successful attempt and I have heard many have very poor success as well.
So I was wondering why that is and what everyone things the reason for this is? We all want friends and a loving relationship so whats the deal?

A very astute observation, I totally get what you are saying about the relationship aspect of it. But what about the friendship aspect? The site is filled with people who end all communication randomly, (same vain) lose interest randomly, and seem make up any excuse to not try to be friends.
I have many complaints but I will keep them to myself. There seems to be a common trend though of everyone finding a great guy at one point, then it just magically ended because of the other guy, then you meet up with them later, you have long conversations then suddenly they get weird and put no effort in the conversation and just vanish.
Everyone seems to be sad sacks who cry about being kissless virgins and look for a guy but never manage to meet up with anyone. Even though it seems 80% of this board is looking for someone.

I have made 4+ longterm friends, one I meet sometimes casually and a few ceased chatting friendships who at least lasted for a full year and a bit longer maybe.

you're only as good as the people you hang out with. Looking at this board, I've seen all types of people. Most of them are trash, but you just got to find someone who blends well with you. Just because it's the internet doesn't mean it's initially easier to be friends with someone. Getting to know someone can take a lot of effort on both parts. If someone isn't interested in you, then there's no way you can be friends in the long term. You can just have a lot of online acquaintances through this board, but you shouldn't expect to be good friends immediately. It's not like school where you're almost forced to be with other people and become friends just to cover up the mundane boredom of studying.
TL;DR : Friends are hard to come by and learn to be okay with having lots of Acquaintances.

I tried to be friends with people from here, but I had to initiate almost everything and I barely received any kind of interest in return. Tried with lots of people but it always ended the same way. Eventually they just disappear when you don't contact them. I'd recommend that if you're serious about trying to find somebody from here, make sure it's someone in your area and you're willing to meet in person. Don't ignore obvious red flags and try to keep something going when it shouldn't keep going. Make sure the person you're talking to actually tries to put in some kind of effort.

I’ve only ever talked to two people from here and I still talk to both of them. however I don’t pretend like I’ll ever be in a relationship so I never had the pretense of forming a sexual connection.
