The head of "trust and safety" at Twitter was one of Xavier von Erck's pedo bait freaks at Perverted Justice. I have a feeling there's a lot that's fucked up about this one too. She used to go by the name "Allison Shea" when she was trying to lure horny chat room freaks to eat cookies with Chris Hansen.

Interesting you say this.

Lots of these hip and trendy companies, usually tech related, have these "corporate cool words" that staff are encouraged to use in professional context.

It both infantilises the worker so they feel youthful at the company and work longer/better thinking any other job would be worse, and also desensitises them to what they do.

For example, OP image 4 shows them wanting to persecute someone, but instead of calling it that, they call it "standing up for googley values".

Also, when it leaks/they release these words to the public, the average idiot thinks it's cute and that the company must be nice and fun.

Amazon does the same, and lots of those vegan/trendy food brands do the same.

Very similar to cult mentality, but I guess if you get a wage it doesn't count.

Don't forget about conduct policy shit like"Blameless PM"/"Accept Failure as Normal" >>384790

It really is cancer in general, and prevalent at pretty much any tech giant. Mozilla, Intel, IBM, FreeBSD.org it doesn't matter where these locusts go next.

From the video:

>Computers are destined (designed?) to fail

Stopping you right there. Bullshit.

Maybe at Google, this applies. The real world however ain't having that bullshit. Imagine a high-reliability or hard-RT system programmed by these bunch of spineless mudsticklers. Chernobyl everywhere you can lay your eyes on, just because some HR suit decided that programmers can't take the heat.

Why has everything turned to shit so fast.

Years ago I could only dream of working at Google X, but them fucking up too many times has left a bitter aftertaste which is barely fading.

A lot of people seem to have an issue with calling companies lolcows, but in terms of available material, companies are a lot more easy to julay. I'm completely for this thread.

50fa25  No.385165

I think they meant that devs develop additional features or new features that end up not working, or working in a way not intended or it causes additional unforeseen issues.

That's why you have operators to control implementations and make sure the system that gets a new feature doesn't go to shit because of the new feature.

I don't get from the video what their SRE system is or what it entails. They wrote a book apparently about it (in the vid description), but I care too little to read it.

Too much money for too little results made it fall apart. Like the stock market people just threw money at these companies until one of them got lucky and had some success. This absolutely filled the place with used car salesman types who's entire objective was to get money for an idea, do none of the work and then when it falls apart play the same scam again.

It's the exact SJW scam but instead of bullying people you convince them that you have a product they don't want to miss investing in.

d5cbd6  No.385180

>>385165

You're right. Might have read too much into it the wrong way, but calling it "blameless" tough?

It's just that I got flashbacks from working at such a place.

You submit your fancy new features, and everyone in the building just unconditionally claps their hands, giving each other a good wank. It just doesn't click with me that this is fostering an environment where innovative, or hell just solid functioning tech is supposed to come out of.

>>385169

>Too much money for too little results made it fall apart.

So it's partly the lack of some good old-fashioned, beautiful constraints?

Would make sense.

I work in health care and hospitals have code words for a lot of things.

Like right now I work in a place where we get a lot of homeless people so we have a slang for them that only exists in this one specific hospital. If I had to compare the inside slang we use to the stuff I see in these google emails, I'd say the shit we say has practical uses, and no one is forced or encourage to use them, it just comes naturally, while in the google emails it looks like they're going out of their way to use the "corporate cool words".

There's been a larger push within silicon valley in general to turn tech workers into these hip trendsetters and, subsequently, pro-censorship moral authoritarians that people can look up to. Its all for nothing now that its being revealed that they were actually playing both sides of the political divide all along.

I do work with kids and it's similar to the slang you hear from hospital workers.

That's actually practical, though, because you want to speak to colleagues without having the child/patient know what you're talking about.

Sure, there are a few jokes and what-not, but it's just an employee culture that staff make up to better deal with the job. Management actually hate us doing it because it undermines trust or some shit with the clients.

I was just reading Dan Lyons' book "Disrupted" about HubSpot and working there for a year. It's just a company that sends billions of spam emails, but they wrapped in a layer of noxious bullshit. They have meetings devoted to what constitutes "HubSpottyness." They published a 150 slide deck about this shit, "teamishness" and culty concepts like "team > individual":

https://www.slideshare.net/HubSpot/the-hubspot-culture-code-creating-a-company-we-love

He links it not just to the dumb money that founded these places but the whole erosion of a kind of workplace covenant and their reliance on young employees who they can push around and wring out for a year or two and then push on to their next job. So they make it seem like a frat or sorority, and The Company is the school football team. Pretty good read, you can torrent it.
