The entire industry needs to be decentralized, global and competitive, that's how we get the cartoons of our dreams, when there's no longer any gatekeepers and intermediaries in the way of creators producing and selling their works.

J.T is one of the reasons we don't get many Action toons now, it was cheap and easy to make, why waste money in good animation and engaging plots?

What the hell? All those requirements of Canadian's having to be part of the staff. (Producer must be Canadian, If non-Canadians fill the positions of director and writer, or both leading performers then all other key creative functions must be filled by Canadians, at least 75 percent of the total remuneration paid to individuals (other than the producer and key creative personnel) or for post production work must be paid to Canadians. And, at least 75 percent of processing and final production costs must also be paid for services provided in Canada, etc)

Sucks France isn't making more good cartoons, because at least Canada was willing to translate them into English dubs, Eg: Tintin, Nighthood, Blake & Mortimer, Bob Morane, Malo Korrigan & the Space Tracers (I wish more of the English episodes for the latter two series could be found).

It's annoying looking at Canada's output now and seeing it just consist of cheap forgettable Flash cartoons, when they could be better off for instance cancelling 3 series and use that triple budget to make something of increased quality.

You have to understand that back in 2010 bro-culture had basically chaded its way into the traditionally nerdy places. Where Halo started the trend of dudebro gamers, Modern Warfare breached the walls and we were awash in Brown/Bloom military wankfests. Comics were just beginning their spiral into movie fueled undeath as the quality began dropping fast. Cartoons were basically dying from the stranglehold of Nick becoming the spongebob channel and Cartoon Network trying desperately to become 'CN Real'.

Suddenly a quality 'for the genera and audience' high fantasy cartoon plops into peoples laps in that environment and a lot of people lap it up. Hell, most 'bronies' were even good about keeping their autism in check back on half/co/ with only the occasional reaction image leaking out of the dedicated thread. (back when they had to bump the post cap past 300 specifically for MLP threads). The whole problem started when people started to sperg out over the sight of an MLP screencap or shitty little meme. Which was kind of the point as brony came about by mocking frat house bro culture that nerds hated by suddenly found hanging out in all their favorite past times, but everyone knew the colors purple and pink alone would keep them far away from MLP regardless of how popular it became. Anyways, someone saw the sperg, realized they could trigger more people with it, and went on posting sprees. Overreaction led to bans, which resulted in more of a shit storm that resulted in the containment board being made.

Now, almost ironically, one of the few fanbases that doesn't have to deal with a bunch of assholes who are pussy whipped into nothing but pets is in the MLP fanbase.

Basically, people liked MLP because it was good, and people were shocked that any MLP cartoon could be good because it was MLP. "No, man, just watch it, it's actually not bad. It's kind of funny." was how it started. Then there was the extreme backlash of "fuck you, I'm a man, I ain't watching no pony show, ban this shit mods", which made the Bronies appear to be something of a downtrodden minority, which of course appealed to people who are desperate to be a downtrodden minority, along with people who just enjoy starting shit between antagonistic groups.

And finally, when enough noise had been made, it began to develop an audience of the kinds of people who should be watching cute girl anime, but had somehow completely missed cute girl anime. It became Azumanga Daioh for a new generation of autists who didn't hang out on anime forums. It was like they had experienced sunlight for the first time. They had no idea something could be so bright, so warm. Even if it was an overcast day, they had nothing to compare it to. It blew them away.

At the time of MLP release, it happened to be a cartoon that went in a direction of sugary, happy-go-lucky, positive series which wasn't what the animation scene was doing at the time and stood out greatly for it. And that direction and subsequent viral attention it got somehow managed to get a big audience.

If MLP had came out 5 years earlier or 5 years later it never would have had the same success, it really was right place, right time. Also having new episodes being uploaded to YouTube (without Hasbro pulling them down) also allowed a worldwide audience to form.
