Eventually, vapidly pandering to demographics in the name of diversity will take its toll, and no longer make money. Eventually, the market will become so super-saturated with diversity that everyone, not just us, will become tired of it. When that finally comes, we'll experience a full backswing and see a host of characters that make a point to be good characters REGARDLESS of their demographic, rather than trying to do so BECAUSE of it, and entirely through it. We'll get John Stewarts and Static Shocks, not America Chavez.

Monkey's paw, brah. We'll see a backlash and a backswing, all right, but it'll be as stupid and superficial as the diversity fad right now. For a swing towards craftsmanship and creativity would require a paradigm shift more fundamental than, say, the advent of the Internet and webcomics.

Everything is cyclic, it's true, but the left/right axis isn't tied to the quality/zombie axis. That oscillation is on a much slower cadence, and we'll see the politics wheel turn and turn before we ever see an overall trend towards good comics, if at all within our lifetimes.

I think you both are also missing the fact Afleck is a HUGE Batman fan.

Him and Kevin Smith go way back and Smith shared a ton of stories about how much they enjoyed Batman, like when they drove several miles to get their copies of Killing Joke and were reading it on the drive back.
