Wild onions Anonymous 04/04/16 (Mon) 02:31:11 No.9141
You guys in the States ever cook with wild onions? Just fried a mess of these up with some eggs and bacon. Tasty.

They're a non-domesticated onion sprout that doesn't grow a particularly large bulb.

When I go camping I always find these. They are all over Texas I guess.

They are yummy (like mini spring onions), just be careful, because they look almost identical to a poisonous weed that grows in similar areas.

So true about the poisonous weed.
I noticed yesterday when tending the garden that the whole back yard is covered with wild onions (non poisonous). Crow's poison I believe is the name of the poison plant.

Thanks for the heads-up: There's wild chive/onion everywhere around these parts.
I'd never have known about the lookalike if not for your guys.
Tested the clump I brought home—smells like onion when I crush the leaves.

Can both parts of the plant be used in cooking?
I actually wanna try outdoor camp cooking with wild ingredients in CA
Does anyone have a chart of californian wild plants that are edible?

The whole onion plant is edible. Flower, stem, leaves, bulb, etc.

My pleasure.
I like the ease and convenience of having the digital versions on my smartphone when I'm out and about.
The fact that they're free is just icing on the cake.
