Wouldn't IRC be perfect for this? You could use IRC for sending print recipes and type chatting but for actual voice based talking, wouldn't teamspeak or mumble be better.
Teamspeak is proprietary but Mumble is opensource.

For a umber of technical and security reasons, my vote would be for Mumble but I do know that either solution could be used.
