No disrespect meant with this question, in fact I'm considering becoming catholic myself but I'm hesitating after a discussion I had with a catholic coworker. I asked him about freemasons, and if they are still excommunicated from church. He said they are in mortal sin and denied communion. I then asked what his opinion would be on them if the pope said tomorrow that they were fine. He said he'd accept them. I also asked him the same about abortion and homosexuality. He said he wouldn't agree. I understand that there is a big schism in the church about Vatican 2. If a Vatican 3 happened that said gay is ok and abortion is a right, would the catholic church still be the one true faith? Are you just supposed to believe whatever the church says and assume it knows better?

The Novus Ordo/Conciliar Church is a counterfeit. If they do those things, it'll be even more obvious that it's false. Don't be fooled by the Vatican II sect; hold fast to Tradition. Go to your nearest traditional Catholic Church.

Is the schism with traditionalist and novus ordo as big as the one with protestants and orthodox

The Novus Ordo Church is in schism with all prior Catholic teaching, and the Novus Ordo Missae is a new schismatical rite that has to be avoided under pain of mortal sin. There is no such thing as "traditionalist"- there's Novus Ordite and Catholic.

The same Vatican that has rejected Limbo (a DOGMA of the faith), whose leader is Francis ("Who am I to judge?" "An atheist can be righteous and pleasing to God" "Lutherans and Catholics have the same view of justification"… I can go on for DAYS). The same Vatican that organized Assisi? The same Vatican that made JPII (a man who prayed to protect Islam, kissed the Koran, received Satanic Shiva markings, and covered up for molesters) a "Saint"? The same Vatican that that tried to ban the Tridentine Mass (the ONLY VALID Mass of the Roman Rite), and then when they realized they couldn't, allowed the creation of controlled-opposition groups like the FSSP that are totally under their thumb? Make no mistake, they still want to ban the Tridentine Mass, they just can't. They want us to go to the Lutheran Novus Ordo. Yeah, I'm not going to follow those heretics. They are gravely in error. I would be damning my soul if I followed what Francis teaches, thinking it was "Catholic".

Roman Catholicism is predicated on the authority of that man as greater than or equal to scripture. You should cease your pursuit of joining them immediately.

I look at the criteria that the church has always used, which is internal consistency between the books. 66 books are undisputed, and I've looked at the apocrypha myself and have seen each book's inconsistency in teaching with those solid 66.
Luther added no books, the canonization of the apocrypha in the Roman church was part of the counter reformation

To answer OPs question,
In Catholic teachings, the holy spirit is supposed to intervene to keep the pope from leading people into sin. Ie. If the pope was determined to make an infallible proclamation that is wrong or sinful, the holy spirit would push him down the stairs or give him a heart attack before he could make the proclamation.
If a pope somehow says that homosexuality and abortion are okay, it would mean the entirety of Catholicism is false, because the holy spirit is not intervening.
Although as a practical matter, it would not be possible for a pope to declare that homosexuality and abortion are a-ok because it would contradict the catechism and you can't have two contradictory infallible documents

>it would contradict the catechism and you can't have two contradictory infallible documents
Catechisms are not infallible; the only one that could be considered "quasi" infallible is the Catechism of Trent.

Pope Francis makes it very clear, over and over again, who his "Lord" is. It's the same one the Catholic church has always worshipped in secret.

That's only when the pope is speaking ex cathedra which has only happened a few times in all of Catholic history. Pope Francis has never done this, these quotes are from him speaking off the cuff about his own opinions which are not dogmatic, can be wrong, and no one has to agree with, same as if the pope said today that blue is the best color and all other colors are ugly.

But even actions and remarks outside of ex cathedra can lead people into sin. It's no coincidence that the Liberal/secular world absolutely loves him.

So the Holy Spirit doesn't care if millions of souls are led astray unless the pope is in his super special chair when he does it? Papist epistemology is such a joke.

The Bogus Ordo is a joke, which is why any actual Catholic resists the errors of Francis, the post-V2 Popes, and the so called "new mass"
