No disrespect meant with this question, in fact I'm considering becoming catholic myself but I'm hesitating after a discussion I had with a catholic coworker. I asked him about freemasons, and if they are still excommunicated from church. He said they are in mortal sin and denied communion. I then asked what his opinion would be on them if the pope said tomorrow that they were fine. He said he'd accept them. I also asked him the same about abortion and homosexuality. He said he wouldn't agree. I understand that there is a big schism in the church about Vatican 2. If a Vatican 3 happened that said gay is ok and abortion is a right, would the catholic church still be the one true faith? Are you just supposed to believe whatever the church says and assume it knows better?
