What is Christian meditation and what role does it play in the Christian life? Is mindfulness meditation inherently incompatible with Christian thought and teaching? I have some half-baked takes of my own but I'd like to hear your thoughts first.

When you meditate you reflect on your past actions including that of your sins to repent. You also meditate on the gospels, the sacred mysteries, and the lives of the saints to get closer to God as well as doing acts of penance such as fasting and other acts of self mortification. It is not incompatible with Christian theology, as the objective is to get in greater union with God and potential gain greater insight into the sacred mysteries such as visions of his passion or to see heaven itself.

However, be wary of using heterodox methods or beliefs as it would violate Christian theology such as occult rituals or pantheism.

Buddhist meditation = being centered and looking for peace and enlightenment

Christian meditation = to contemplate the wisdom of the bible or personal reflection.

Partially this

I'd add that Buddhism either fails to give you peace (just consider the suicide rates in Japan or the degeneracy and conditions in China, Thailand, etc) or requires things that leaves you susceptible to evil.
