d59086 No.2040

Reminder that the RCC forbade (not only recommended against) the reading of thousands of books without permission from mommy church. This went on until the 20th century.

Banned books included:

>Luther and Calvin, for daring to believe what the Bible says about salvation

>Thomas Hobbes, Blaise Pascal, Rene Descartes and other philosophers, for thinking for themselves

>John Stuart Mill, for believing in political liberty

>Victor Hugo, because ?????

They even banned the entirely Roman Catholic, Benedictine monk Staupitz from history, who denounced the Reformation, because he was teacher to Luther.

This isn't something you do without cognitive dissonance. Truth doesn't fear investigation.

>MUHHH FREEZE PEACH!!!! FREEDUMBZZZZ *leaks spittle*

We literally have Satan worshippers that perform black masses being given the same rights as Christians. America is a country for Masons and Jews, not Christians. Anyone that can blaspheme the holy name of Jesus Christ and claim they have a right to do so I s kidding themselves. Luther was a coprophiliac and Calvin was a bastard. Enlightenment philosophers have no place in Christiandom.

> Luther

Because of his faithless reinterpretation of faith

> Calvin

Because he denied the free will choice of each individual to allow the Holy Spirit into his soul

> Hobbes

For his retarded justification of monarchy. Monarchy is the right system of government but his argument was ugly and stupid.

> Mill

For the open, blatant, militant apostasy of social justice convergence

> Victor Hugo

For justifying revolution against king and church, in which millions were killed

Any more authors the Church was right to censor?

Declaring as anathema is the appropriate response to heresy, not coercion. What would you do if the next pope was giga-francis and declared anything teaching hetero marriage verboten, under threat of excommunication?

Do you see the conflict of interest between intelligent debate and censorship?

In my philosophy class I hated Hobbes because he got away with blatant heresy saying nobody can say anything positive about God then justifying that monarchs could do anything under the sun and none of it would be abusive. It was schizophrenic.

The simple truth is that Catholics are not Christians.

try to remember this, if they had the power to do it, they would force all bible believing Christians to denounce their faith or die. That is the simple truth.

They may pretend to be similar to Christians but never forget that the devil can appear like an angel in order to deceive, but by their fruits shall ye know them. modern day pharisees

He was likely consecrated in the New Rite of Episcopal consecration, which has doubtful validity. I don't know when he was ordained a priest, but it could be that he was made a priest when they forced the New Rite of Holy Orders on everyone. So, he could be nothing more than a layman. Some videos:

Saint Peter was the Bishop of Rome, Saint Mark was the Bishop of Alexandria, the former spent his life in Rome was martyred on what is today Vatican hill. This is upheld by numerous historians of the ancient world which is Tertullian, Origen, Eusebius, and in scripture itself 1 Clement. That's four different sources, five if Tacitus' general account in the annals of Christians being persecuted within Rome nullifying any claims of tenuousness.

As for Saint Mark, Eusebus recorded his account of the establishment of the Church of Alexandria

" And they say that this Mark was the first that was sent to Egypt, and that he proclaimed the Gospel which he had written, and first established churches in Alexandria.

And the multitude of believers, both men and women, that were collected there at the very outset, and lived lives of the most philosophical and excessive asceticism, was so great, that Philo thought it worth while to describe their pursuits, their meetings, their entertainments, and their whole manner of life."

There he converted the native Egyptians, also founded the famous Catechetical school recorded by Saint Jerome, and had fulfilled the prophecy given in Isaiah 19:21-24 that Egypt would worship the one true God. Saint Mark was later martyred there in 68 AD and in the third century his church was second to Rome in importance.

This image macro is pretty boomer tier to say the least. Incense, candles, poverty, pilgrimages and the like are lowercase traditions that do not require observation. Purgatory itself is just a place where those who died and were saved are purged of remaining venial sins and inherit the beatific vision,so if you end up there you're already on your way up into heaven.

The Catechisms are guidelines for the faithful supported by scripture, not even exclusive to Rome as both the Orthodoxy and high church protestants have their own, and some decades ago there was a joint catechism published between Rome and certain high church protestant denominations for the sake of ecumenical reconciliation.

Now here is where this goes full retard. Christ said to keep the mosaic law, which means uphold the 10 commandments. That means you have to attend church on sundays or else you violate the 4th commandment directly, mass going in hand with that. Christ repeatedly demanded baptism by water in scripture to cross over into the body and relieve oneself of original sin being absolutely clear in Mark 16:16,Acts 10:48, and Matthew 28:19-20. He also demanded acts of penance and literally said "REPENT, FOR THE KINGDOM IS AT HAND" in Mark 1:14-15, 1 John 1:9, and Luke 24:47. That includes confessing mortal sins like murder or adultery as said to the priests in Matthew 16:14-15 that they have the authority to forgive or retain sins. The last rites are to aid a person before death so that he may be further assured that he may enter heaven, but it is not a requirement as there are many who die without them.

In the Old Testament if you were disobeying the authority of who God had entrusted to bind and let loose (Isaiah 22:22) it was disobedience to the rightful authority God instilled. Likewise in Matthew 18:20-22 Peter received the keys an was closely confided by God, so while he does not grant salvation himself proper submission to the office is needed as there was only supposed to be one body. Mary does not save directly but served as the Ark of New Covenant, bringing Christ into the world so that we could be saved. She is the Queen not as a deity, but by ancient Jewish lineage that the mother of the King would rule with her son over the kingdom of Israel. Likewise she loves us as her adopted children and fervently prays for us, just as you would ask someone to pray for you to strength prayers.

My final refutation is that the church itself does not believe salvation is obtained by works, but rather by the unconditional election and cooperation with the grace of God. Salvation is not "earned" by anyone but requires that we continually strive to live a holy life until the day we die. It's like constant motion. Works according to James 2 is proof of one's faithfulness to God, something faith alone cannot do just as all bodies need souls to live from ourselves to the very plants. To bring this all together, John 14:15 says "If you love me, keep my commandments". That means public worship(mass), repentance, baptism, the eucharist, and doing what he requires of us to the best of our ability which includes following what authority he left(following the catechisms, scripture) and doing what is pleasing to him(Penance, tithing, spiritual poverty). You then believe in what the Lord have said and given, and then can you be saved.

Unconditional election denies free will. Jesus said he would have everyone follow Him, but, we all have our free will, same as Michael and Satan.

If we love Him, if He's our Lord, we should keep His commandments. In addition, virtues are habits, and habits need to be acted out. Salvation is by faith because the virtue of faith is the key piece, and by election, because it's a theological virtue that comes from the Holy Ghost, the natural man doesn't understand spiritual things.

Jesus said that if we love Him, we need to keep His commandments.

Paul said we are saved by faith, not by works of the law.

So really, if you want to be a Jesus-not-His-Apostle heretic, you should support works-based salvation. Alternatively you could understand that faith is a virtue and works of faith are the fruit by which faith will be known.

I'm not a Paul-basher, but to be fair, keeping the law is faith. "Good works" are stuff like helping others, donating to the church, following the steps that the church tells you to do, or indulgences. Paul himself says that the commandments of Moses are holy and just in the beginning of his letter to the Romans.
