I've been pondering this for a long time now. You see, I was a kid in the '90s so I grew up in the era where there were mascots for videogames so for me, Christ-chan is effectively a mascot for Christianity. But then, I'm not really functioning as an adult right now in my life as I'm currently a NEET. I just can't imagine someone looking at these images and cringing. It's bright. It's colourful. It's nice and easy on the eyes. It's comfy. It's fun.
Maybe it depends on your attitude towards "childish" things. I notice some adults are okay with them whereas others think of them as embarassing. I basically confirm the idea that those with positive feelings towards these things are dysfunctional but nonetheless, in my mind, there's nothing stopping me from being a functional adult that also enjoys these things.

Look at the second one. The dark skinned anime girl is holding a body pillow of some old catholic figure. Body pillows are weird. It's a depressing idea of simulating intimate human contact that's turned into a meme it's so pathetic.
I enjoy childish things. I enjoy anime. My wife and I like Kiki's delivery service. This is not merely childish, it's uncomfortable.
