It uses the critical text in many places.
For instance, in Mark 6:44, the word "ὡσεὶ" meaning "about" when in front of a number, is removed in the modern critical text, but is present in the majority and received text. Nevertheless, the ASVBT removes this word and simply says "five thousand" instead of "about five thousand."
Another example of this is where in Romans 13:9, the phrase, "thou shalt not bear false witness," is removed in the ASVBT. Likewise, "through his blood" is gone in Colossians 1:14 ASVBT, while in Colossians 2:2, a verse dealing with the mystery of the Triune God, the literal translation of "and of the Father" (found in the KJV and others) is changed to "even the Father" in the ASVBT. Another removal that occurs according strictly to the critical text is where the whole phrase, "I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and," is removed from Revelation 1:11 in ASVBT.
Overall, I counted about 20 very major doctrinal changes based on using the modern critical text over the received or majority text, or based on conscious translational choices (c.f. 2 Cor. 5:21, Philippians 2:6). In addition, there were some sizeable deletions in the ASVBT that seem to be for no reason, like where the phrase "in the name of the Lord Jesus" was removed from Acts 9:29. The original 1901 ASV only removed the word "Jesus" here, but the ASVBT removes the entire phrase. Acts 24:6b-8a is also removed in the ASVBT, but still found in the 1901 ASV. Also the ASVBT has strange changes not found in other versions, such as deleting the second half of 1 John 2:23, switching Matthew 23:13 and 14, moving Romans 16:25-27 to the end of chapter 14, and changing a few verses to mean their opposite such as Nahum 2:2 and 2 Samuel 21:19. The words "see evil" is changed to "fear evil" in Zephaniah 3:15. A footnote in this version is placed around much of Luke 9:55-56 to suggest that it should not be there.
Of course, there are major differences from the received text due to the mistake of following an illusory majority of the manuscripts as well. For instance, Acts 8:37 is completely gone in this new translation. This despite it being present in the ASV - Same for Acts 15:34. The word "Thomas" is removed from John 20:29. Another strange choice was to shorten "come and see" to just "come" in only Revelation 6:3, whereas most modern versions do this to all four verses of Revelation 6:1/3/5/7, including the 1901 ASV. It also changes an angel to an eagle in line with the critical text in Revelation 8:13, and on the same basis makes the alter itself speak, instead of someone out of the alter, in Revelation 16:7. I could say more but I think that about covers how much alterations this supposedly high-quality translation makes.
