Probably halfchan /pol/. It's turning into an occasion of sin anyway. Sad, it was half chan that brought me back to the church.
Probably the give up playing the Sims 4. Total waste of time and there is a temptation to play it sinfully. It's gone to heck anyway with the last pack; totally satanic. I'm discovering many of the player base suffer from gender dysphoria and have rejected God because of it, so EA panders to wickedness.
Instead I'll study Latin and the details about the mass. Maybe I'll become an "alter boy". Father had no one to assist him last Sunday. Our usual alter boy is too old to kneel anymore.

God, however, approves of repentance of sin and mortification of the body. It builds discipline to resist sin; in other words, it gives grace.

Wrong. Grace is given once when a person believes. Faith alone saves, not works (Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV). Once you are saved you are always saved (John 10:28, KJV).

There are many examples in the Bible of sinners repenting by fasting and sackcloth and ashes.
Best example is Jonas 3:4-10
4 And Jonas began to enter into the city one day's journey: and he cried, and said: Yet forty days, and Ninive shall be destroyed. 5 And the men of Ninive believed in God: and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least. 6 And the word came to the king of Ninive; and he rose up out of his throne, and cast away his robe from him, and was clothed with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published in Ninive from the mouth of the king and of his princes, saying: Let neither men nor beasts, oxen nor sheep, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water. 8 And let men and beasts be covered with sackcloth, and cry to the Lord with all their strength, and let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the iniquity that is in their hands. 9 Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive: and will turn away from his fierce anger, and we shall not perish? 10 And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way: and God had mercy with regard to the evil which he had said that he would do to them, and he did it not.
The unfaithful made a big show out of renting their garments and covering themselves with ashes. They did this to gain status as more reverent than the next fellow. Our Lord told us not to do that anymore in Matthew 6:16-21
16 And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But thou, when thou fastest anoint thy head, and wash thy face; 18 That thou appear not to men to fast, but to thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret, will repay thee. 19 Lay not up to yourselves treasures on earth: where the rust, and moth consume, and where thieves break through and steal. 20 But lay up to yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither the rust nor moth doth consume, and where thieves do not break through, nor steal. 21 For where thy treasure is, there is thy heart also
The Catholic tradition of lent is straight out of the Bible. It is not true to call it "pagan". If you don't follow the commands of our Lord, you need to repent as the Catholics do: anoint you head, fast and abstain. We also give up something worldly that is not sinful as part of our penance.

Our Lord did not suffer the scourging, crown of thorns, carrying the cross and crucifixion so you can party and sin.
We must carry our own crosses as best we can, repent of our sins since baptism, and mortify the body with denial to obtain grace (build mental discipline to resist sin).
I think Baptist need to take simple logic: this is an "And" gate - if you have faith in Jesus and accept him as Christ the LORD GOD, you would certainly do as He says, and He said feed the poor, support his church, If you disobey, you reject Christ as LORD, it's that simple.

Once saved always saved is an obvious error. The Bible teaches us that the Apostle Judas ate the body and drank the Blood of Christ Our Lord and was thus saved, but he fell into sin, was cursed, did not repent, hung himself and went to hell.
If you think it works better for you than a literally Damned by God apostle who was Chosen by Our Lord, you're on the path to hell.
Accepting Christ as Lord means Obedience, and Christ said "Go and sin no more". If you disobey you reject Christ as Lord! That's what LORD means! You accept his authority and obey his commands! The Lord works through his apostles to hear confessions and forgive sins on this earth.

No where in the King James Bible is Lent commanded or spoken about anywhere. It is not Biblical, it is a 4th century Roman Catholic invention, and Roman Catholicism is pagan, so it is indeed pagan.
Also, first of all those verses you cited are not from the KJV which means they're Satanic. But all those verses in the KJV are saying is that someone who falls away into sin was never really saved in the first place.

>If only there were events lasting 40 days/years of purification/trial in the bible.
I know, huh! Jesus himself fasted for 40 days out in the desert! And the protestants say "no where in the Bible". You can't argue with them, I quoted Jonah 3 and they just ignored it. Judging from the small sample of posters here (about 36 folks or so) Protestantism is about taking a small section of the Bible (after throwing out 7 books!) out of context and ignoring the parts that prove them wrong.
Like this guy who is on about faith alone really meaning "faith plus works" just double talk. The faith part IS required. You can't be doing it for show, like the old jews who would try and outdo one another with sackcloth and ashes! Works alone are not enough, but faith without works? That's not faith at all, and it's certainly not accepting Christ as King and Lord! If Christ the King commands, and you do not obey, you reject him as your Lord!
>>853440
>No where in the King James Bible is Lent commanded or spoken about anywhere. It is not Biblical, it is a 4th century Roman Catholic invention, and Roman Catholicism is pagan, so it is indeed pagan.
Jesus fasted 40 days. Jesus told us how to fast and do penance! (Matt 6:16-21) I am offended you refer to the teachings of OUR LORD as "pagan".. The wicked people of Ninive fasted in sackcloth and ashes for 40 days and the Lord God Almighty forgave them and spared them his wrath, and you call THAT pagan.
What I learned on this board is that is that protestants deny most of the Bible and then say "Sola Scritura". They say "sola fide" and then berate you when you point out that you have to be obedient to the Lord and do good works in his name.

In short, it's a misunderstanding and misapplication of the Perseverence of Saints doctrine of the Baptists' Reformed heritage.
A truly saved will persevere in walking the narrow path of faith in Jesus their whole life. They might/will err from time to time, but will always repent and find their way back to Christ -or rather, Christ will leave the 99 to get them. They'll truly repent and by the grace of God strive be made righteous -not out of belief that salvation is a work (as our works are but filthy rags before God), but out of God's Irresitable Grace.
If you put being saved down to just having an emotional moment where you respond to the altar call and pray the sinner's prayer, then go on to live a life of iniquity, or even if you attend church every Sunday and not be Christian the rest of the week, you're NOT saved.
This is the satanic lie that OSAS instills is frankly a doctrine of devils, meant to lead sheep astray and onto the wide path that leads to destruction.
You're frankly better off believing that salvation comes through works, as there's a chance you'll come to realise how utterly inept you are at saving yourself, than genuinely believing in the complacency that OSAS advocates.

>The wicked people of Ninive fasted in sackcloth and ashes for 40 days and the Lord God Almighty forgave them and spared them his wrath, and you call THAT pagan.
True, but Matthew 6:16-18 says,
>16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
>17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
>18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
It also says in Scripture that men will come who wish to command others to forbid them from marriage and command them to abstain from meat.
See 1 Timothy 4.
>1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
>2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
>3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
>4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
>5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
Is not this what we see today with mandatory celibacy and fasting calendars? It is. It's seducing spirits and doctrines of devils that leads to commanding other men when to fast as Catholic leaders do, and making a big show of it all. That as well as unlawfully commanding celibacy.

You missed the point of Matthew 6. Some Jews turned it into a show of "holier than thou" to show that they were more religious than the next guy.
Then you go off on 1 Tim which is about witchcraft and not about doing penance, saying that those who are penitent are 'seducing spirits and the doctrine of devils'. That's so off the wall and false, I'm still a bit stunned at the hate within it.

Giving up PMO permanently. I started reading EasyPeasy and I'm on track to have it finished by tomorrow (taking it slow so I properly digest everything). The last time I tried reading it, almost two years ago, I got to about Chapter 3, stopped, and made it 15 days before relapsing. I'm not stopping this time.
I'm also being more conservative with meal sizes on days of fasting this time around.

Christian means those who accept the Nicene creed. it doesn't mean "doing penance to God Almighty for sins for 40 days before the Sacrifice of our Lord and our God on the Cross"!!

Why does that matter? Are we only allowed to eat food the Bible mentions? Saint Paul tells us, in Colossians 2:16 and Romans 14:5-6, that we are allowed to regard any day we want as holy.
>It is not Biblical, it is a 4th century Roman Catholic invention, and Roman Catholicism is pagan, so it is indeed pagan.
Lent is simply a fourty-day fast leading up to the holy day of Easter/Pascha, which certainly existed before the 4th century, and (while not established in scripture) is in accordance with it. Speaking of the 4th century, Roman Catholicism didn't even exist then. Easter existed as early as the 2nd century, and it's fairly reasonable to fast leading up to it.
