I'm seeking a bit of guidance. I believe there is a god. I have come to see that in the past couple years of my life as indulging in every form of hedonism short of heroin offered me nothing but decay, but praying out of desperation for something better has left me with a better life and a respect for order, cleanliness, and charity over all pleasures. The change for me is night and day. I know God sent me this way, and it was all part of the plan, my life was told in the parable of the prodigal son. And yet when I look to how people around me conceptualize God, I just struggle to believe that the Nazarene two millennia ago was Him. I've never trusted anyone who claimed to be of God, and so many in our world do. Something feels different about Jesus, and I respect the Bible in a very Thomas Jefferson "moral teacher" sense, but some skeptical impulse in me seems to fundamentally deny the possibility that he is God. Christianity is the only vehicle to grow closer to any worship in my community. Does anyone know how to push this fence sitter over

Thanks, I'll get reading. I feel close to some kind of change, if that makes sense.

I'm your opposite. I have absolute certainty of God's existence and Jesus is most likely Him given the way John the Apostle, John the Baptist, and Paul describe Him. However, I would say the morality that is passed off as His own by other Biblical characters/authors and modern Christians is horribly inaccurate. Jesus is someone far more "edgy" and despicable to the common man than the false image of Jesus presented to us by those who identify as Christians. He was physically violent against those who used sacred areas for their own agendas and apparently so generally unlikable that a massive crowd of various people cheered for His execution and unanimously decided to free a nasty thief over Him. He never asked for peace and even said upon His return He will kill most of the world's population. This isn't a man who would say "turn the other cheek" unironically. This is a God who would order the execution of the Canaanites and most of humanity in general.

You sound immature. Especially with the anime pic. Grow up. God is most definitely just, but stop projecting your action hero nonsense into holy things. You haven't even scratched the surface. You still talk like someone of this world. This is why Islam is such a ridiculous religion.

In context your cherrypicked quote is talking about wicked foreigners by the way, not Christians who see Jesus as the God of the OT.

The human soul was made to seek God! Which religion did God bless? and When was that blessing denied when it fell from obeying God and given to sin?
Where is the narrow path, and which religions promise a wide and easy path?

I am still waiting for these people who deny the Holy Bible to either repent or leave.

Jesus was talking to fukking kikes in the context of that verse and in other parts of the Gospels He is often snarky and sarcastic to people He doesn't like. "Don't resist evil" being ironic instead of literal would not be out of character at all for Jesus, especially considering He didn't like the people He told this to.
