So my mom recently looked up Native American religious symbols, things like what a certain kind of bird would mean if you saw it. After that, she said that when she saw a bird, I think it was a cardinal but I could be wrong, that her grandfather was watching over her because Native Americans thought that cardinals represented their ancestors. I questioned her on this, and she said that it is just God sending a sign to her, but I think that it is at least somewhat blasphemous. Should I just let her keep going with this, or should I keep trying to convince her that it is wrong?

There's no need to press the issue. It's not blasphemy just weird and wrong.

All cultures have a grasp of the truth. Some lose touch with it more than others. To Native Americans' credit, many tribes still speak of a Great Spirit. That's more than you can say for the Greeks or Sumerians, who had completely lost their way with elaborate pantheons.

So I guess my point is, try to focus on the good, biblically friendly beliefs of some people as well. Not everything they say is blasphemous. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater, if you will. Just gently correct them when things go wrong, using their own beliefs and symbols. Even Paul did that when he was at the Areopagus of Athens, saw the statue they had erected there to the "Unknown God", and knew he had an opportunity to speak to the Greeks and deliver the Gospel through their own belief system (Acts 17:23).
