A deviant sect with a focus on opposition to western colonization and imperialism. Its views and practices are probably heterodox by most accepted Christian standards. It's probably not too hard however to imagine how such a movement appeals to a cohort dissatisfied with the historical colonialist legacy imposed on them.

Even Bob and Rita Marley apparently realized the false teaching. I wish more Rastas talked about that. Bob converted to the Ethiopian Orthodox church before he died. His wife is still Orthodox to this day.

It's not merely heterodox. It's heretical to the bone. It follows the teachings of Marcus Garvey, who taught that King Haile Selassie of Ethiopia was some reincarnation (or another advent) of the Messiah.
Ironically, it was King Selassie himself who was disturbed by this and sent Orthodox missionaries to Jamaica. One of which Bob Marley learned from.
