When I read through church history about great and sometimes persecuted Christian traditions (ex: Moravians, Mennonite Anabaptists, Wesleyans, Pietists, Lutherans, Anglicans, Calvinists), I feel the desire to join their congregations so I can specially share in their heritage. I have to stop and reevaluate from the Bible why I fellowship where I do, even if those churches are very attractive because of their emphases or their history.

Does anyone else share this experience?

I grab a Bible, read it and do what it says. My heritage of persecution has a lineage back to Abel for doing what is righteous all the way up to friends in India who can't worship openly.

It is true that, all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution (2 Timothy 3:12.) However I want to be sure this is done for righteousness or not. As our Lord says: Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

And also: he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

So then were you defending his word "when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake," or not? There are many causes in the world, but not all of them are just. An example of a non-just cause is Popery.

>Anyone feel like joining a heretical group and sharing the heritage of God's rightful wrath?

No. Never occurred to me to do that.

>However I want to be sure this is done for righteousness or not.

Sorry for this awkward sentence. I meant to say I want to know whether or not someone is being persecuted for righteousness or not, and make sure that this persecution is being undergone for righteousness' sake, as our Lord says.

Notice Jesus told us that, he that loses his life "for my sake" (our Lord's sake) shall find it, and also that persecution specifically for the word's sake shall arise. If you were merely being persecuted for some other fallible cause none of this applies. However, it is still true that all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. It naturally follows then that we should be prepared for this, and be able to deal with it in the knowledge that God's watchful eye is over those who are being persecuted for the word's sake.

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. - St. Mark 8:38
