or you could just slowly quit games entirely, chopping off an hour or so every month and read instead, or do the same but with different games

If you find you can not improve yourself in the games area, try to improve in other areas. Eventually, you'll get bored of games, see them as a cheap way to waste your time and look for more fulfilling tasks.
