This is what Protestant thinking does to you. Prayer is done for the benefit of God, not yourself.

That is what i was doing! I was praying For god, I prayed for Children trapped in shitty situations. i pray That I have a wife and have kids so THEY can love God like I do. I accidentally made duplicate posts since it didn't. I'm also considering being catholic, anon. I'm not a prot. (sorry dad, love you a lot) I feel a lot better due to the other thread. i want more people to love Jesus. Its a beautiful thing.

I don't say that because of what you were praying for, but because you shouldn't expect to feel tingly every time you pray. Also, you should become Orthodox.

is there any major difference( I'm new, sorry) between Catholics and Orthodox views. are you pro abortion IN ANY WAY? are you pro contraceptives? i have not seen any listed differences between Orthodoxy and Catholicism. And I feel spiritually connected more to catholics than to other sects. ( although i've only done Lutheran but they had a women minister at the church i went a couple times. I was put off, thanks to /christian/! Saved me from that heresy ( Again sorry Dad! Love you! )

>is there any major difference( I'm new, sorry) between Catholics and Orthodox views.

There are important philosophical, theological, administrative, and liturgical differences

>are you pro abortion IN ANY WAY?

No.

>are you pro contraceptives?

This one is more complicated, while we would definitely be against oral contraception since it induces abortion, some believe married couples may use a condom if they speak with their spiritual father about it

>And I feel spiritually connected more to catholics than to other sects.

It is not a good idea to follow "spiritual feelings" that easily because it's possible you may be being guided by forces other than the holy spirit. I'd definitely research more about the differences between the churches and praying about it. You wouldn't want to choose the wrong one since this is a lifelong commitment.

Yes, there is a difference. Various "Orthodox" groups have split from the Catholic Church since its foundation, with the Great Schism of 1054 being the most infamous of all. As for theological differences, Catholics prohibit the use of contraceptives; the Orthodox do not. Catholics recognize the Bishop of Rome (an office held by St. Peter and his sucessors); the Orthodox do not. Catholics believe the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son; the Orthodox believe it proceeds from only the Father. There are numerous other differences, but those were the first to come to mind. Both Catholics and the Orthodox oppose abortion, btw.

I notice you mentioned feeling disturbed at the sight of female clergy. I should add that the Orthodox have Deaconesses, while the Catholics allow female altar servers and "Eucharistic ministers" (not priests or other clergy, but parishioners who assist with Holy Communion).

okay thanks for the info. I don't like schism ( it is what lead to pro-gay Methodist "churches" I believe The Catholic Church despite its flaws is STILL the Church of Christ, as it was founded by Peter as tasked by Christ. If Christ wanted orthodox, he would have tasked peter/

Not to be uncharitable, OP, but you just derailed your own thread. Anyways, the only big difference is that orthos claim the Pope is merely a "first between equals" while we Catholics believe he is the Vicar of Christ . Orthos will insist there are HUGE differences between us, though, and will likely bring up some advanced theological questions that the average layman, Catholic or Orthodox, never thinks about .

The Orthodox didn't schism from the Catholics. When you have five pentarchs and four of the five say they're orthodox while the fifth says they're the sole interpreter of doctrine it's pretty clear who is in schism.

>>820721

They were deaconesses in name only and were necessary to perform certain sacraments for women since men weren't supposed to touch women. Catholics will act like we have female priests walking around like Lutherans when they know it's not true, it's a historical anomaly.

It encourages LUST, which is the 1 sin that people commit far too often Bad, since the sexual revolution of the 60's is to blame for the destruction of nuclear families ( among other reasons) it is also population control by artificial means. My view is the BEST for of birth control is ABSTAINING. people can't seem to keep it in their pants. I struggle I'll admit, But I try my best to NOT do it. I just wish to find a wife to have kids with so they will love god. but it is hard to find a women who meets the criteria. And don't get me started on STD's.

on an unrelated note, My Cat is dying from old age. Is it wrong to pray for her comfort? She is a dear old friend of the family, comforted us many a cold winter night. I want her to go in peace. Can I also pray for my other cat who is the same age but in brilliant health. I will call her by my nickname for her "sh*t head' due to how much shit she has survived. Of course no one wants to view themselves as schismatic. Even Sedes detest that label. However, I've explored both the RCC and Orthodox churches, and for reasons already stated and more, came to the conclusion that the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church is the Church founded by Jesus Christ, not the man-made Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Church, Latvian Orthodox Church, Key Lime Pie Orthodox Church, or any other heretical "orthodox" church.

What does this have to do with matters of birth control between married couples not being dogmatic? Vaginal sex between spouses isn't lust. It's still a sin to not have children in marriage. If you struggle with sexual impropriety it may be a reason why you are so confused about this topic.

It doesn't matter that the Catholic Church has more members, what matters is it is right. The Church Fathers agree that it is necessary to have a Pope. Israel has always had one leader to be the representative for the Church here on Earth, starting with Moses.

Imagine if there were five Moseses instead of one. It would be ridiculously confusing.

<St. Ignatius of Antioch

>You [the See of Rome] have envied no one, but others have you taught. I desire only that what you have enjoined in your instructions may remain in force

<St. Irenaeus

>But since it would be too long to enumerate in such a volume as this the succession of all the churches, we shall confound all those who, in whatever manner, whether through self-satisfaction or vainglory, or through blindness and wicked opinion, assemble other than where it is proper, by pointing out here the successions of the bishops of the greatest and most ancient church known to all, founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles. Peter and Paul, that church which has the tradition and the faith which comes down to us after having been announced to men by the apostles. With that church, because of its superior origin, all the churches must agree, that is, all the faithful in the whole world, and it is in her that the faithful everywhere have maintained the apostolic tradition

<St. Cyprian

>With a false bishop appointed for themselves by heretics, they dare even to set sail and carry letters from schismatics and blasphemers to the Chair of Peter and to the principal church [at Rome], in which sacerdotal unity has its source

<St. Optatus

>In the city of Rome the Episcopal chair was given first to Peter, the chair in which Peter sat, the same who was head — that is why he is also called Cephas — of all the apostles, the one chair in which unity is maintained by all. Neither do the apostles proceed individually on their own, and anyone who would [presume to] set up another chair in opposition to that single chair would, by that very fact, be a schismatic and a sinner. . . . Recall, then, the origins of your chair, those of you who wish to claim for yourselves the title of holy Church

>4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand. 6 Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

(Philippians 4:4-7)

>At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

(Matthew 18:1-5)

From these I could say two things:

1. There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking God to ease the burden of your cat. For prayer to God from your heart is never wrong.

2. Certainly as a child it is a natural thing to pray for, it comes from a more innocent nature.

That being said, I believe that the sufferings in this world are from God - to strengthen the faith of those who experience the suffering. Not only can personal suffering strengthen one's faith, but those around the one suffering can conduct good works from the Father. It is why you should never reject pity from others when you are injured. Certainly pray for the comfort of your cat, but you can provide comfort for your cherished pet. When my rabbit was dying, I prayed for a peaceful end. But I also cradled him in my arms as he took his last breaths. For if you are to look for God acting in this world, you will often find His handiwork in the good actions of men.

To expand upon this, Prayer isnt about asking god for what you need help with, he already knows. Prayer is about letting God know you have faith in him to ask him for those things. In this sense Prayer is absolutely something you do for God.
