Breaking habits is a misnomer, you should be forming new ones to replace your less than virtuous ones. For example:
>urge to masturbate because morning wood + phone in hand
>get up and pray some hail Mary's to clear head and ask for pure thoughts
>keep coming home from work, have urge to drink to drunkenness
>start drinking water or juice to sate the habit, prayer when it's not enough
>fall into sloth when on days off, just sit at computer and don't do anything
>set timers for relaxing, then spend time doing other productive activities, starting small and working from there.
>suffer from bouts of anxiety, leads to self hatred and wishing I wasn't born, etc.
>participate in the sacraments and actively commune with the Lord through prayer and acts of charity, ask for serenity of thought and the fortitude to keep going even in the face of difficulty
It can be done friend. I went through some variation of all these things, but I personally say that it wasn't until I real dug deep into prayer and near-daily participation of the Eucharist and Confession that I got out. Every now and then I fall, but I remain undaunted. I pick myself up, ask for forgiveness, and keep living as best I can. I'll pray for you to do the same brother.
