Original sin is not some primal type of "force" instilled in us. There is only mortality and death, which were the curse of Adam's original sin. And all of our own sins are a result of the mortality we all inherit. All of them. Every single one. Every single sin is due to a mistake in survival tactics, and wrongly trying to improve our lives and escape the curse of death (through pleasure, security, crushing others to get ahead). Sin still exists because death exists. And why it will continue until the resurrection, when things are finally made new. This unfortunately doesn't change overnight even for a Christian. Even St. Paul grieved over "what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I" (Romans 7:15) because he lived "in this body of death". Mortality compels us into the sinful corners of life, even when our spiritual life is awake to something better and doesn't want these things.
But,,, you can die in this life and experience the first resurrection here and now, through Jesus Christ and baptism. Baptism is dying now and reaping the benefits here and now. The flesh will still be weak, but the spirit will be strong (Matthew 26:41) in guiding our lives from that point. This is what Paul meant by encouraging us to "walk in the Spirit" (Galatians 5:16). Instead of following Adam in the power of death, we follow Christ in the power of life.
And yes, this is a process. Wash the idea out of your head that salvation is a past event/one time thing. It's constantly ongoing, and past, present, and future. Saying it's only in the past and you should already be fixed is not going to help anything. And if you keep treating sin with this mysterious power, it especially won't help anything. Focus on the powers of life and death instead. Think about why Christ is called the second Adam.
