IIRC Ultraman was created by a Japanese Catholic, and God is permanently part of Ultraman's monumentally autistic canon because He's mentioned in obscure side material (the franchise has a policy of everything ever produced being canon, even the American 'let's copy the in-suit footage and shoot an entirely different plot' Ultraman is part of the leep dore). Though this is the same franchise that had Ultraman Taro fight an alien from Planet Terrorist for a Christmas episode, so Ultraman being based shouldn't surprise anyone.
