Very few lay Catholics study Latin. It's not really a necessity

As previously stated, it is not nesscary, but it is fun to learn. I try to pray in Latin every now and than and sing Salve Regina (embed related) near the end of the Rosary.

I like the coptic language but isn't it still a very much alive language? Unlike Latin which is a dead language?

No, it is not. Due to Islamization, only 300 people in the entire world speak Coptic fluently as a spoken language. Other than that, it only survives in our liturgical services. Deacons and priests are required to know basic Coptic vocabulary and the alphabet, but none of them can speak it regularly outside of some bishops and the Pope.

I studied Latin in school. I can translate Latin to English OK, but I suck at English to Latin. The best thing it gave me was an appreciation for etymology and looking at the roots of words.
