The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I came to the conclusion a while ago that the truest form of Christian practice would be something in line with monasticism. Since then, I've begun working with the Benedictines in my town trying to become an Oblate, and I've sunk significant amounts of time and resources into studying its history and practice.

I've read the works of The Desert Fathers (ie Institutes, Sayings, Lives, Conferences) as well as early monastics like St. Basil, St. Jerome, St. Gregory the Great and (obviously) St. Benedict. I've already read much of St. Bernard's work and I've been working my way back towards earlier medieval writing as of late.

In addition I've of course begun reading scripture in a meditative manner, as well as praying a form of hours daily, and all of this combined has greatly benefited my spiritual life.

I'm interested in what your feelings/relationships are towards holy orders and/or similar practices. I'm also interested in which of the various orders you prefer from a philosophical manner (regardless of denomination). Obviously, I chose the Benedictines, but Basilians and the other monastic orders do still fascinate me, as do some of the other orders like the Franciscans, Dominicans, Carmelites, etc.

Easy: Find the most obscure monastic order that nobody's ever heard of and that's the one /christian/ will glom onto the hardest. It's important to be a special snowflake, after all.

The religious orders are cool and do serve a purpose for the world at large. My personal favorite are the Passionists. Best of luck in your studies in begomming a Benedictines.

just be careful around those Jesuits, too much bad fruit has entered this world through that branch

agreed. it's a simple approach to life.

work. pray. sleep.

i'd recommend that kind of life to anyone. i will most likely become a benedictine, unless i get married.

Thought you might like my favorite redpilled order, also try reading some more modern stuff (counter-reformation) saints being older doesn't make them better (and you haven't mentioned reading my favorite, St. Alphonsus Ligouri!).

Vid is my favorite order

Here are some writings you might like they host

http://papastronsay.com/fssr/Vocation/index.php

All from Saint and Doctor of the Church St. Alphonsus, also included his recommended spiritual practices in the PDF.

the link above includes some stuff from this has some extra bits

https://archive.org/details/alfonsusworks17liguuoft/page/n9

rule for his order and other info on the religious state

https://www.goodcatholicbooks.org/pdf/liguori-true-spouse-of-jesus-christ.pdf

Book he wrote specifically for female religious life but most of it still applies

on the priesthood he has this

https://archive.org/details/alphonsusworks12liguuoft/page/n9

which should be essential reading for priests

Also if you want to improve in meditation check out some of his stuff written for it, I prefer it greatly over lectio divina and find it much easier

http://alphonsianum.blogspot.com/2010/03/life-is-journey-to-eternity.html

Here's a sample and his overview of meditation http://www.awakentoprayer.org/method_metal_prayer.htm

I assume you've already read it based on what else you've read, but just incase St. Francis De Sales section on prayer goes over everything fantastically https://www.catholicity.com/devoutlife/2-01.html

He has a work on the divine office which you as a budding benedectine might enjoy as well

Jesuits are fantastic, St. Francis Xavier, St. Ignatius, St. Robert Bellarmine, St. Alphonsus Rodriguez, and Cornelius Lapide.

and in line with that a recent one Fr. Hardon one of the best recent priests.

Ctrl F for religious life here, he has tons of conferences on it

http://www.therealpresence.org/archives/Religious_Life.htm You can find transcriptions of lots of it here as well

He taught St. Teresa of Calcutta's order and is responsible for helping make adoration widespread in the west again.

yes even the edgy traditional one i posted does

My thought's on non-Catholic monasticism is they might end up getting some natural virtue but there is No Salvation Outside the Catholic Church so unless they leave their rule they will go to hell, and basically all monasticism totally pales in comparison even just naturally compared to Catholic monasticism, it's just far better thought out and organized (especially because it leads you to heaven and not hell).
