I am currently in my senior year of high school and have thus been trying to figure out what it is that I plan on doing once I get out. I have applied to some colleges and have been accepted so far by one (and outright denied by one as well). I am a mediocre student with a 3.3gpa but a 1420/1600 SAT score. I suppose I haven't been applying myself as much as I could be.
With that background out of the way, I have a question about the extent of the commandment: "Honor thy mother and father". My parents have sat me down and explained to me that I am far too stupid, lazy, ignorant, etc etc *add more insults here* to go to college and that I have not their blessing to go. Rather, they want me to move a thousand miles away to Texas and find a job in some oil field. I took great offense at this, and in addition find it unfair not only that my piercing clad, gluttonous, atheist of a sister was allowed to go to college. Also, if they have stated I am too irresponsible to go fifty miles away to college why am I better off in another state?
Perhaps that is too much information. Bottom line. Is it okay for me to disobey them and go to college anyway? In addition, am I also being prideful at the moment?
TLDR: Does one break the commandments by going to an institution against the will of their parents?
