The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

What do you guys think about christian mysticism? For me it makes absolute sense so I wonder why I never heard about this in my RCC. God wants us to know him as much as we possibly can and he knows in his infinite and perfect wisdom that for many pepole the bible just isnt enough. He wants us to completely clear our minds and patiently wait for his guidance focusing on the fact that he actually lives in all of us. This is the most simple and most effective way to truly know him.

I think it's a great thing that is stifled and suffocated by christian legalism and phariseism.

Christians cling so hard to their salvation that they think that by defining clearly who is saved and who isn't, they can lock down a surefire way. The idea that some people simply don't fit into this picture of legalism simply doesn't occur to them, but God wants to save those people too, and sometimes, it happens, and when it does christians cry heresy.

The entire problem stems from the need to be able to tick off "being saved" on your to do list instead of surrendering to the divine unconditionally.

OP the Bible is truly wise, and I personally am just recently realizing how very true this is.

For reading about it, two things I’ll point you to:

1. look up saint symeon , I just ordered his Discourses . I am very excited to read and learn more.

2. look up and read “Saint Seraphim of Sarov On Acquisition of the Holy Spirit”

if anyone else has additional reading on this subject I would be very interested to read and learn more.

Because of ignorance? What do you think being in a monastery is like? People choose to seclude themselves in one for an entire life-time.

Not to mention, the Catholic Church had that entire fight with Martin Luther and Protestants over their spiritual traditions.

Your problem is that you're are completely vague and make no sense.

What do you define as Christian legalism?

What do you define as Christian "pharisee"?

What do you define heresy?

You sound Orthodox and I'm pretty sure they have a strong opinion on what is heresy or not. They just have a soft opinion on sin, but still require regular confession.

A true Christian life is absolutely "mystic", as in you are living your life not for your self but for God. The relationship we have with Christ is a mystical relationship, if you look at protestant's this idea is still there but it is to a minuscule degree compared to other parts of their practice, with evangelicalism and sunday worship being the Highlight of their Christian Faith. Their relationship with Christ is a backstage phenomenon underlying their life, it is not the forefront is it should be.

Christianity holds the depths of mystery at it's roots and as such, it is at our roots of our Faith.
