The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

My fellow christian brothers and I will watch this movie in the parish after mass.

I know that the director Roland Joffe is jewish and atheist, but anyways the movie is fun and such.

Have anyone watched it?

I did and i liked it.

I watched it just last year and really enjoyed it. Didn't really see any major issues form a Catholic perspective, but I'm not a theologian or anything.

Also saw this old movie in a educational sense, its pretty good to be honest if not kinda slow, there wasn't any pozz at the time.

Also checkout on pic related, they are not exactly christian in a sense, but they are pretty good and generally historically accurate.

Forgot to ask, but does anyone have more of these kinda of historical movies to recommend?

The Name of the Rose is an amazing movie. 10/10.

>there wasn't any pozz at the time

Uh … yeah, there was. The Name of the Rose came out in 1986. If you don't think there was pozz in 1986 ….

Remains one of my all-time favs. Sets out the debate around whether violence in defence of Christianity is valid and presents two different takes. Furthermore, has one of the best conversion scenes committed to celluloid. DeNiro is pretty epic.

And the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone (who did half the spaghetti westerns) is brilliant.

Good film. Enjoy it. But it IS long and might seem pretentious and overlong to some lesser minds. Persist. Enjoy the aesthetics.

Worst of all, it IS based on a true story. [film-spoiler] The Portuguese did covet the Spanish missions and conspired with the Spanish to have them handed over. The Church was just being used and manipulated since they were the rule-makers. Sad.

Gonna watch this flick just for his score.

It's not sad bro. The indians defended themselves really rough. They were a lot, and they wouldn't hesitate to kill you and stab you in the back.

I'm of european blood and I live in Argentina. It's pretty rough still. tiggers will be tiggers forever.

I've never seen it or even heard of it, so I don't know anything about it and can't say for certain, but I'm assuming the movie has something to do with Christianity being on this board. That being said, why would we watch a movie about Christianity that's directed by an atheist?

Genuinely curious, it's worth discussing when media is good to think about, when it's okay to watch, and when we should avoid it.

Even a broken tree can sometimes bear good fruit.

I saw it advertised somewhere and I though if it's worth watching. Thanks for the thread.
