The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Does the name Yahweh/YHWH/Jehovah refer to the whole trinity, the Father alone, or Jesus alone? I’ve heard all three, and I’d like clarification

Are you talking about some alphabet soup/gematria thing.. or just the meaning of the name. Because in the latter case, it surely refers to all aspects of the Godhead. YHWH is like an abbreviated form of what God said to Moses "I AM THAT I AM". Above all things, God is saying he is the living God, the God who was/is/is to come, and he will help Moses, just as I did his fathers. It's a name but also a statement of Covenant and assurance. Would we apply it to all of the Trinity? Sure we would. Only the hopeless believe God in any of his aspects is not an "I AM". Some remote being who doesn't help (much like Muslims view him tbh.. and maybe some self-floggers elsewhere).

In that case, like I said, the name is an abbreviated form of his words to Moses (I AM THAT I AM). YHWH comes from a root verb "hava" which basically means "to be".

And even before Christian times (dig up the Targum thread I posted here if you're interested), the concept of the "Word" of YHWH existed as well. The burning bush is the Word, appearing as "the Angel of the Lord" in the bush.. and this Word speaks as God in the first person. Because he is God. He is the preexisting Logos. Which is why Jesus finally said in his human life: "Before Abraham was, I AM."
