Because it had been given so often in film threads on this board as "/our/ film", I decided to check out Solomon Kane when I had the chance, and I have to say, /christian/ I am disappoint.
I won't take issue with the B-grade production – was there a sale on mud that week? – the mediocre writing or the CGI devil at the end, and I won't even get stuck into the cowboys-n-injuns-tier contrast the film promotes between good and evil – I swear I was expecting Kane to don a white hat after being crucified (because we all know that THAT is the most ebil thing you can do to someone) in the end just to make sure we all understood what was going on.
But, seriously, what in the flames of hell is /christian/ doing promoting a meme Christianity film as though it was a gilded teaching film with solid biblical theology? What is all this bizarre "the debil wants your soul to punish" BS? The devil is mooooore than happy to stay well hidden and leave evil men on earth just where they can do the most damage to themselves and others. The devil does not take souls to hell to punish them. And saving a girl who's only kidnapped to lure you in … is NOT going to save your soul. Preeeeeetty sure that's what Christ dying on the cross was for.
This film may have had the LOTR medieval theme down pat, or a puritan version thereof, and it may have been about a man saving his soul in a meme version of Christianity (where apparently Jesus' crucifixion was only done for the "we jews/romans are ebil" purposes), but it was a simply TERRIBLE version of a Christian film.
So, answer this, why does /christian/ celebrate the film Solomon Kane as though it was good?
Or have I been successfully rickrolled and y'all are tittering into your wafers and wine?
