The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I want to go on a orthodox christian pilgrimage as soon as my college is over. How do I go about it and where are the best locations (prefer eastern europe) besides the obvious ones? Do most people go with a touring company or just on their own?

Im seconding this, any anons here with firsthand experience?

"Thirding" this. I was gonna make a thread about this but I completely forgot. Thanks, OP. I'm currently in the process of converting, and I would like to visit a monastery or something after I'm baptised.

I have been to a few monasteries. I visited the cell and burial place of Saint Herman of Alaska and also the cell of Father Seraphim Rose. Will travel to Valaam next summer, God willing.

It’s best to let them know you’re planning to visit.

Do other denominations also organise similiar pilgrimages? First I hear about this happening in the modern day and it looks great.

08bd8b  No.740838

Parishes usually organize pilgrimages each year. Go to an Orthodox church and ask the priest about it, or if he knows any parish that does do pilgrimages. My parish usually does pilgrimages to local monasteries, Lourdes, Mount Athos, Valaam Monastery and Jerusalem.

I've been to Mt Athos and i want to visit Jerusalem on Easter to see the holy fire, i believe those 2 are a must (for a man at least regarding Athos).

Other than that, i like to visit monasteries here and there.

Some of us can't go to Mt. Athos, unfortunately, until this crisis is resolved. I'm catechizing at a ROCOR parish.

>Lourdes

Are orthodox people really going to Lourdes?

You gotta obey your Church mang. That's an important part of Christian life. If the patriarch says we aren't in communion than we aren't in communion. It would be presumptuous of me to disobey from my own inclination and reasoning. I pray that this crisis ends soon.

Saint Herman’s cross, he wore it chained around his chest at all times so no one could remove it.

I live in France, so yes. The Orthodox here respect the events surrounding Lourdes since they have led to great piety among Catholics, and there is even an Orthodox parish in Lourdes that does the Liturgy once every couple of weeks (I think?) in a Catholic chapel.

Does your church seriously prohibit you going to Mount Athos because Mr. Moussaka told Mr. Pierogi his beard is bigger?

Come on man, the Apostolic faith goes beyond quarrels, the monks and relics in Mt. Athos aren't less holy now.

Never knew orthodox went to Lourdes.
