Just look up "tumblr" and you'll see a bunch of news articles on it. Apparently, users were spreading CP across the site prior to this decision being made.

So the story goes that a few weeks ago the tumblr app got pulled off the app store bc apple refuses to host a site that hostes child porn. The tumblr staff responds by just banning nsfw accounts left and right, and now a sitewide purge of all porn on the 17th has been announced by the president of the company. Odds are this is at the behest of the yahoo overlords because for some reason they thought they would be getting a legitimate social media platform when they bought the site a few years ago, as opposed to the nexus of fandom culture and all the horndoggery that comes with it.

But the REAL kicker is that there really isn't any way clean up this site beyond a content I.D. scanner ala youtube, and the algorithm ended up the absolute trainwreck it never really couldn't be. Everything from cats to cruxifixes are being flagged. Pictures of Jupiter on an astronomy blog got hit because they looked like boobs. Because of this, artists are all prepared for a potenial mass exodus, and many people are predicting that the entire "fandom culture" is going to have to end up migrating platforms.

So yeah, Babylon has fallen. Start popping bottles.
